Abu Dhabi: All About 'Will' Power - Session on Making Will Enlightens Mangaloreans

Abu Dhabi, Apr 16: Konkani Cultural Organization (KCO) - Abu Dhabi organized a session on the importance of preparing and having a will under Sharia and Indian Law at the India Social & Cultural Centre (ISCC) mini hall, Abu Dhabi on Saturday April 14. The session was attended by large number of people.

The evening's proceedings commenced with a short prayer by Valerian Almeida followed by a brief welcome address and introduction of the speakers Mark D'Souza and Robinson D'Souza of Maclanro Consulting, Bangalore, by KCO president Michael D'Silva.

The interesting and informative session started at 8 pm and covered all aspects of Indian and Sharia Law. The expertise of the speakers in various issues was really enlightening.

The speakers covered issues like

- The importance of a will
- What is will
- Why should you make a will
- Why people do not make a will
- What are the consequences if you do not make a will
- Myths regarding a will
- Impact of not making a will in compliance with Shariah Law
- Taxation policy etc.

All the above topics were proficiently elaborated with examples by the speakers. They insisted on not to delay making a will and stressed on the legal implications resulting in not doing so. They also explained the need for making a will when one is a resident in a foreign country like the UAE, where the laws are more complicated than Indian Laws. They said a well drafted will with the assistance of the experts can go a long way in avoiding legal issues.

The speakers answered the queries raised by the attendees in a simple and expert manner during the question-answer session. "Everyone thinks that it is too early to make a will and delay in preparing and making a will, which will lead to misery for the survivors in an event of death or a mishap," they said.

They propogated the message 'Thou shall write a will today and not tomorrow' for the benefit of all.

The attendees were delighted with the information as some of them were unaware of the implications of not making a will.

KCO's efforts in organizing such events is laudable and will create awareness among people. Many people missed the opportunity to witness this excellent informative session which is rare in this part of the country.

The session concluded at 10:30 pm with a vote of thanks proposed by KCO general secretary Lydia Lobo.
