Bangalore, Apr 16: After several rounds of meetings with the StateGovernment, the pre-university college lecturers on Monday decided to withdraw boycotting evaluation of second PU examination answer scripts.

Lecturers would resume evaluation work across the State from Tuesday.

PU lecturers have been boycotting evaluation work since April 13 demanding hike in their pay-scales.

Speaking to reporters after a core committee meeting of the Karnataka Pre-University College Lecturers’ Association, the leaders Thimmaiah Purle and Srikantaiah said teachers would resume work from Tuesday.

Karnataka’s Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri chaired a meeting with office-bearers of the Association in Vidhana Soudha on Monday.

Legislative Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy, former Minister Basavaraj Horatti, Ganesh Karnik, Puttanna, C G Madhusudan, all MLCs representing teachers’ constituencies, attended the meeting in a bid to find a solution to the ongoing imbroglio.

Speaking to reporters after two-hour long meeting, the Minister said the State Government had an open mind to the demands of the teachers and promised to hold discussions with them in the presence of Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on April 19.

Kageri said the Government would respond to the teachers’ demands but opposed setting deadlines.

Taking into consideration of interests of students and parents, the Minister appealed to teachers to commence evaluation of answer scripts immediately.

    Dear Deviprasad Kinnikumeri,
Your statement is correct if a teacher (Lecturer) is serving in a western country, where teachers and law and order (Security) profession is greatly valued and paid without any problems. The western culture has a system in place which we totally lack. However the scenario which you are visualizing with our state or central governments is not the same. Kindly note an IAS/IPS officer sometimes have to bow down (Yield) on the orders of these dirty politicians setting low standards. Additionally they (lecturers) have to follow up for payments (waste of time and energy) once evaluation is performed, sometimes it will be reimbursed after evaluation of next examination papers. Finally i would like to comment is it is not a clean slate where teachers are putting enormous efforts in their profession. I hope what the lecturers have taken is a right step, taking advantage of the situation. On the other hand if we review the scenario, because of this step the results expedited will be delayed and subsequently admission to professional colleges will be delayed. In this context concerned education department has to take steps in reviewing the lecturers salary structure keeping up their promises.

The strike/boycott by Lecturers is toally blackmailing the governmnet or society. The government must take a written agreement from all the Govt Employees , while joining the service, for not joining any such strike or boycott. The government should throw them out from service and has to recruit new Lecturers in their place. Everytime when the valuatiuon comes they start to boycott...! There are so many good well educated Lecturers available now a days...!
