Sharjah, Apr 30: Shravya Suraj Shetty, a grade 6 student of Delhi Private School, was awarded the 'Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award' for 'Distinguished Academic and All-round Performance' at a function held at Rashid Hall recently.
A Mangalorean, Shravya Shetty is the daughter of Suraj and Arathi Shetty and granddaughter of the late Anand Shetty of Ambika Motor Driving School, Mangalore.
Speaking to Daijiworld, Shravya owed her success to her deep-rooted faith in god and to her parents who motivated her all through and encouraged her to work hard. She also thanked her teachers for guiding, supporting and helping her to channelize her resources in the right direction.
On being chosen for the award, she said it was a dream come true to have received an award at the hands of deputy ruler of Dubai and UAE minister of finance and industry. "It couldn't get better than this," she added.
"The award has evoked new dreams in me. It has boosted my confidence and I feel very good about myself. This award has unlocked a door of opportunities for me and has provided me the confidence to face tough challenges ahead," she said.
Asked about her secret to success, she said that she has a keen interest in everything, a curiosity to know and understand things, which has helped her in her studies.
Apart from academics, she is also interested in art, philately, gardening, cooking and reading books. "I also like cycling and swimming," she adds.
"These varied interests have helped me a lot, I learn a lot of things with every activity and this helps me complete a task with much ease and efficiency. My various hobbies help me bridge the gaps between my fields of interest and interconnect them to form one solid piece of information which comes handy during confusions," she says.
She also takes active participation in various inter school and intra school activities and has won many awards. She won accolades and bagged prizes in public speaking, swimming, art and painting, dancing, singing and was recognized as a Maths quiz champion.
She has also participated in the 'Light a Billion Lives' campaign, and contributed in providing light to one of many villages in India. It was a major campaign initiated by her school DPS Sharjah, a school that has also supported her to join Emirates Environmental group where she does my bit to save the environment. "The humanitarian cause that I embraced is 'Literacy Drive towards the Working Laborers’ which has given me immense satisfaction," she adds.
Truly, young Shravya is a cut above the rest, and is surely poised to attain greater heights in days to come.
