Mangalore, May 1: State BJP president K S Eshwarappa said on Monday that there were no wrongdoers in the State unit of the party. He said those facing charges in the court of law could not be considered guilty.
Eshwarappa was reacting to the statement of Ananth Kumar, the party’s national general secretary, that those facing graft charges would not be given any posts.
“I do not know in what context he has spoken. He must have made the statement in the backdrop of senior leader Bangaru Lakshman being sentenced in a bribery case,” he said. Eshwarappa expressed confidence that the party would win all the six seats of the Council that go to the polls shortly.
He was speaking after inaugurating the preliminary meeting of the state-level Yuva Morcha at Jnana Mandir, Bappanadu, Mulky, on Monday April 30.
“The BJP has been contemplating to inspire the youth nationwide against terrorism, naxal menace, conversions, and attack on worship centers. It would be a significant step in garnering the support of the youth for a change,” he said.
“BJP will be organizing a youth convention to create political awareness, which will prepare the stage for general elections in a few years,” he added.
State BJP Yuva Morcha president Sunil Kumar said that national president Anurak Takoor and Gujarat CM Narendra Modi will participate in the convention in Mangalore on Tuesday May 22. Entry is restricted to youth within the age of 30 years. Nearly 1.5 lac youth are likely to attend the convention. ‘Ratotsav’ will be held in four districts as a publicity campaign on Monday May 14.
BJP state vice-president MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Banoo Prakash, Dakshina Kannada district president Padmanabha Kottari, Uday Kumar Shetty Udupi, Prasad Karwarkar, and district chief secretary Devdas Shetty were present on the occasion.
“The decision of choosing a candidate for Mulky–Moodbidri legislative assembly constituency lies with the high command. The BJP has confidence to win its candidate from Mulky–Moodbidri legislative assembly constituency and the decision lies with the high command as to whether MP Nalin Kumar Kateel will contest the elections,” said Eshwarappa while addressing media persons.
“The image of the state government has been tarnished by a few episodes and if the allegations are proven, such individuals will not be allowed to contest the elections,” he added.
“A BJP delegation led by CM D V Sadanand Gowda will go on a tour to New Delhi, to urge the union government to release funds for the severe drought faced by the state. The state Congress has hijacked the issue of drought with UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s tour a few days ago. The state Congress has been day-dreaming that MP Jayaprakash Hegde’s victory in Udupi–Chikmagalur Lok Sabha bypolls will enable them to come back to reign in the state,” said Eshwarappa.
