Mangalore, May 2: The coastal security forces on Wednesday May 2 carried out 'Sagar Kavach' operation to test the preparedness and alertness in securing the state’s coastal belt. The operation was held across the coastal region of the country.

The operation started at 6 am in the morning and will be carried on till 6 pm on May 3. Though this is mainly for security purpose, the inconvenience to the public was obvious.

The operation was carried out mainly in the heavy traffic areas, hence traffic was affected at various places and the common man had to go through a harrowing time.

Coastal security police, coast guards, navy and other police personnel were part of the two-day operation.

The operation has been a part of their agenda for years now. The security forces 'search' for dummy terrorists (intruders) in specified time, which tests and certifies the capability of each police personnel. Hence, though it is a mock drill the police need to put in a lot of efforts to find the disguised 'terrorists'. Failure in doing so exposes the loopholes in the security system.

The security personnel are taught to detect the different ways like by sea or road that terrorists use to enter into the city. Four wheelers are mainly tracked and tinted vehicles are stopped. The police said tinted windows will be allowed on cars only under certain conditions, and will not be allowed within city limits henceforth.

Dear Mr. Jossey, I agree with you. But the thing is if they check physically, we people only blame them for racism. Just remember the Sharukh Khan incident.

HAHAHAAA! NICE ACT! BUT DURING REAL TRAGEDY WE ARE HELPLESS. SORRY STATE OF OUR PREPAREDNESS. WE HAVE BOATS BUT NO FUEL, WE HAVE POLICE BUT NO GUNS, GUNS ARE THERE BUT ANY BULLETS. IF BULLETS ARE THERE GUNS DO NOT FIT IN (BECAUSE OUR POLICE STILL ROAM WITH .33MM RIFLES WITH BORE 5 BULLETS). FORGET ABOUT OUR POLICE OUR SOLDIERS ARE EQUPIPPED WITH SUBSTANDARD BODY ARMOUR (TODAYS NEWS). SO, ONLY HOPE IS ALMIGHTY BE IT CONGRESS OR BJP.

Stopping your car, rolling down your windows and asking for your credentials is not security checkup.
Enter any US consulate, your full body is physically checked, after that all your belongings are X-screened.

    Dear Moideen,
Kindly note it is not a drama, it is an exercise for preparedness which the police has offered today in the interest of a common man. It is the police department that, faces the toughest challenges during a tensed event where they themselves have to abide by law and order to maintain peace and harmony. I hope as far as my experience goes they are the most hard working people and poorly paid unlike western countries. One can look at the traffic chaos that is being effectively controlled during peak hours at heavily crowded cities.
The traffic need to be regulated with standard sun control stickers on window panes. ALL number plates fonts and sizes need to be standardized. Breach of regulations need to be dealt with strict discipline apart from fines, after all the police department has social responsibility of citizens which one should note at this point of time. Many thanks for the exercise, i hope the gap identified in this drill will be filled.

It will be interesting to know how many vehicles between 0600 and 1800 hrs were impounded for having "non standard" number plates- when I drive around Mangalore I see a lot of fancy numbering (non standard), non standard number plates, and most importantly blinding headlights which are banned. Let alone the totaally blackened glasses that can hide terrorists.
These exercises are a good time to catch all these law breakers.

Tinted glass should be banned so 50% problem solved.
I can see some car glasses are tinted more than 70% which dangerous for everybodys security.

Good Show... This is totally time pass .Now people have to start removing the tinted windows and go for transparent ones.Young guys will be thinking how to drive front of St Agnes :). What about the number plates on the vehicles. All designs and languages are seen on the number plate . Why not bring a strict code of size and colour for number plates too. Looks like the Traffic Police are jobless now ..

Kalla - Police aata .. They didn't had choices when they were kids?? so playing the game now...
Will a real terrorist come by informing the police?? If the real mock then nobody should be informed.. The fake terrorist should come without informing ... This is waste of public money .. Instead they can invest on improving the system and make it tougher for anyone who disturb peace in the society.

These kind of operations are just eye wash one. Required in need they are not useful. our security forces are not capable of handling any kind terrorist attack (happened in mumbai - 2009). Better we give these kind of security to any internationaly renowned private firm
