Mangalore, May 3: To provide uninterrupted oxygen supply not only to operation theatres (OT) and intensive unit care (ICU) units but also to most of the wards of Wenlock Hospital, the management has set up a new liquefied oxygen plant (LOP).
P Saroja, district surgeon and superintendent of the Wenlock Hospital, speaking to Daijiworld said that the capacity of the new LOP is 6,000 litres as against 420 cylinders earlier.
The newly plant was formally inaugurated by P Saroja in the presence of the officers of Indian Overseas Bank. The bank funded an amount of Rs 8 lac for the construction of plant and its civil works as part of its corporate social responsibility. The huge liquefied oxygen unit is also supported by British Oxygen Corporation (BOC).
Henceforth, the unit will have continuous oxygen supply, and there will be no wastages of oxygen in the form of leakage and also, manual work of carrying small cylinders will be reduced.
In order to supply enough oxygen to each ward the hospital needs an amount of 10 lac, Saroja said, which would be fulfilled with the help of donors.
