Mangalore: Synthetic Track to be Ready by November - Yogish Bhat

Mangalore, May 7: State legislative assembly deputy speaker Yogish Bhat and district deputy commissioner Dr Chennappa Gowda along with other officials visited Mangala Stadium and inspected the progress in works on the new synthetic track and renovation works being carried out from the last few months.
The engineer and the contractor in charge of the work explained to Bhat and DC the progress and also briefed on the pending works. The two later had a discussion with the officials.
Speaking to mediapersons, Bhat said that the cost for the total renovation is estimated to be at around 3.75 crore. "This track is an international standardized synthetic track. The renovation work is under progress and will take still another 4 to 5 months to complete and is likely to be inaugurated on November 1, that is on the auspicious day of Kannada Rajyotsava," he said.
"The officials are taking each and every matter seriously and are working day and night to make this stadium the best one and give it an international standard and look," he said.
The DC said that the track which was planned on the basis of one dimension is now designed for two- dimensional tracks. The cost has also been sanctioned and the works are being carried out on war footing, he said.
"There is no compromise on quality, even of drainage system so as to ensure that there is no stagnant water on the tracks which would lead to damage," said.
He also urged the officials to keep a track of the total number of water tankers being used to strengthen the concrete foundation of the track so that the track is strengthened according to international standards.
They later paid a visit to the new walking track being laid in Mangala Stadium along its borders, mainly designed for senior citizens as they find it difficult to get their daily exercise inside the stadium especially when there are sports meets or training sessions.
Officials H Parshwanath, Manjunath, Thejomaya, Raju Velu and others were also part of the inspection team.
