Kundapur: Kannada Sahitya Parishat's New President Felicitated

Kundapur, May 10:
“It’s essential that everyone take an active role in developing Kannada.  Kannada Sahitya Parishat has been promoting Kannada among people regardless of caste, creed, religion, and regional differences. It will celebrate its centenary in May 2014.  Various committees are being formed in this regard.  I am committed to bring laurels to my hometown and  I need the co-operation of the rural people in securing 5,000 to 15,000 memberships in three-years,” said Punadalik Halambi, newly-elected state president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat.
 
He was speaking at the hometown felicitation programme held at Kala Mandir, Uppunda, near here, recently.

Karnataka Sahitya Parishat former state president Harikrishna Punaroor and Uppunda Chandrashekar Holla felicitated Halambi on the occasion.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Udupi district Kannada Sahitya Parishat newly-elected president Nilawar Surendra Adiga said that the organizations that are promoting Kannada literature and culture would be brought under the purview of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, encourage budding writers, decentralize the activities in order to encourage women and youth to participate actively in literary and cultural activities.
 
Udupi district Kannada Sahitya Parishat past president Uppunda Chandrashekar Holla reminisced about the service of Harikrishna Punaroor in promoting Kannada and all activities of the Parishat in the coastal district.
 
Punaroor presided over the programme and honoured Goddess Bhuvaneshwari, patroness of Karnataka, by lighting the lamp.
 
Sitaram Mayya welcomed the gathering.  Vani Jagdish and Vijaya Om Ganesh rendered the prayers.  Ganesh Gongolli sang Kannada songs.  U Ganesh Prasanna Mayya, Sandesh Bhat, and H Jagdish Rao compered the programme. Nitish Shetty proposed the vote of thanks.
