Mangalore, May 11: They say a black cat crossing your path is a sign of bad luck. If this particular accident that took place near Kudupu here is anything to go by, the black cat might well be replaced by a green snake!

The accident occured between a jeep and an express bus near Kudupu here on Friday May 11 at around 4.15 pm.

A Karnataka state government jeep (KA 19 G 43) belonging to Laxmi, assistant commissioner, religious endowment department, was on its way towards the Mangalore.

The driver of the jeep overtook an express bus 'Reshma' (KA 19 C 6704), plying between Mangalore and Karkala via Moodbidri, near Kudupu garage. As soon as he overtook, he noticed a green snake crossing the road and applied sudden brakes. The bus driver behind the jeep lost control and hit the jeep.

Both the bus and jeep were badly damages, but miraculously, all the four persons in the jeep escaped with no injuries.

The bus driver told daijiworld that he could not avoid the accident as there were big ditches on the either side of the road. The bus was also crowded, and hence a major tragedy was averted.

Both the vehicles are now in the possession of the Mangalore rural police. A case is yet to be registered, but it would be interesting to see who would be the guilty party - the bus driver who could not help it, or the jeep driver who only wanted to save the snake!

Meanwhile, the snake crossed the road merrily, oblivious to the almost disaster it had caused!

It's Jeep drivers fault.. after overtaking other vehicle one should not apply sudden break.. I dont think its a wise dicision to save a snake and put human life in danger.. i know this place in Kudupu, at this place it's not easy for a express bus top ut sudden brake..

    Dear all,
I would give a medal to the Jeep driver - if possible.
He did save a snake risking his own life.
But I feel that the bus driver was not keeping a safe distance.
I am not the one to decide who was guilty in this accident - but am happy that the snake is safe!!
    Have a nice day.

In Dubai whoever hits from behind vehicle is on fault as he has not maintained proper distance. Forget about snake just assume what if a human being suddenly crossed the road. Bus driver is at fault. Most of bus drivers in Mangalore are too rash in their driving.

Jeep Drivers is really foolish. His driving license should be cancelled because he does not have rights to drive when he do not know the human value. How can he put others life in risk for a snake? doe he think snakes life is as impotent as a human life?

Driver can apply his break at any time for his or his passengers safetly!
Following Vehicle should keep safe distance, that is his duty how much distance he require to stop his Bus at nominated speed for his nad his passengers safety, This is international traffic rule,
while drive you have to more concern about what is in your front than what is in your backside.

Happy that one less headache of speeding Reshma bus. I am sure that many of you wished the same. People who walk around Gurupur,or drive on Kudupu-Karkal road have seen this driver operating this bus. About noon time this bus could have caused a collision of three buses just before Polali
Arch near Gurpur. This idiot driver was trying to overtake 2 cars and a bus,and almost hit head on with another bus on opposite side. Just imagine the casualties. How could this bus be stopped at the speed it is going always. Jeep has the right to stop when needs cause. Instead of snake if it was human crossing, what will be the answer of bus driver.

Snake was spoilsport to speeding jeep and Bus!!Snake emerged as BREAK INSPECTOR...Because now a days Break Inspectors are doing snakes job living in bushes and not focusing their duties. How many accidents takes place on daily basis in Mangalore but RTO/Break Inspectors unmoved...This is a lesson to them as well as speeding motorists of Managlore.Thank god ironically enough,no causalities.
