Mangalore, May 14: An angry mob protesting against the railways for not opening the Padil railway gate for a long time, stopped the movement of all the trains and stood in the middle of the tracks.

The gate had been closed for a train to pass by around 7.30 pm and even after one train passed by, the gate was not opened.  As the queue of vehicles grew, lots of people gathered around the spot. The gate was not opened till 7.50 pm.

The angry mob then started to protest against the railway department and the gate-keeper on the spot. As the crowd grew, they asked the gate-keeper to call their station master to the spot, but he didn’t turn up.

Angered more by this, the protestors started pelting stones at the gate-keeper’s room near the railway gate damaging its window glasses and the bulb outside. They also damaged the railway gate. When the gate-keeper came to open the gate, they even tried to assault him and asked him not to open the gate until the station master arrives and gives a proper reason for the delay.

One of the photojournalist who tried to take a photo of the mob was also assaulted by them and their camera was damaged. Later, seeing the bad situation on the spot, as many  as 12 to 15 police jeeps including the DCP, ACP, crime DCP, and other police officials and policemen visited the spot and made further arrangements to control the mob and make way to the free movement of vehicles and trains.

More details are awaited.

We all want more trains to be introduced to different places, yet the railways fail to identify key level crossings, and laise with the local government to either have over bridge or underpass constructed.this will only ease the traffic congestion, which is a benifit for all

Railway level crossing at Padil - Bajal road in Mangalore is a curse for the residents of that area. The carelessness and neglects by the railway officials are the main reason. This gate remain closed for long duration for shunting the trains even.

The area between Ekkur overbidge and Mangalore junction can be utilized for parking and shunting purposes but the officials wants to irritate the residents so so is hanging.

Peoples representatives need a matter to point out , hence they are least bothered to solve this problem.

THIS IS A VERY SIMPLE PROBLEM IF YOU SEE THAT SITTING FAR BEYOND BUT THE SUFFERERS MAY HAVE DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE.

I think we are all from Karnataka being made from special characters. Else why we should endanger our life near the railway tracks. Manmade Gates are being erected to avoid train accident only. If the gates are closed means they may expect one more train though we have to wait for more than 10 or 15 minutes some time. When Gate keeper tried to open a Gate again they stopped him for want of his boss to come to the spot and delay the traffic for another 30 minutes!!! What they want exactly? Gate to be open? Railway Boss wants to be on Spot? Or Shorten the Gate close and open time?

The Railways should build a flyover at this point. It is crazy that even after so many years the residents of Bajal have to go through this hurdle every day and night. There are almost 25 trains passing on this route incl. goods trains. The residents are being held to ransom.Recently a resident of Bajal could not manage to reach the hospital due to this Railway Gate. The patient succumbed to this long delay in the Ambulance itself.

Our MP Naleen Kumar Kateel has never opened his mouth so far in Parliament. His attendance is very poor too.Why do we elect such people to Indian Parliament when there are other stalwarts in Mangalore who will fight to get something great for Mangalore leave alone a silly matter of a flyover at Padil ?

In the next election the people of Mangalore should come forward with a consciences candidate instead of this party system , which is killing all morality.
