Mangalore, May 21: Vittal Malekudiya, who has been housed in the district jail for his alleged Naxal links, was allowed to write his post graduate semester exams on Monday May 21. He was permitted to write the exam after a fast track court in Puttur gave its consent and university vice chancellor (VC) Prof T C Shivashankarmurthy also gave him permission to do so.

Malekudiya suffered attendance shortage after he was jailed on March 3, 2012 and doubts prevailed about him writing the second semester exams of his mass communication and journalism course.

Though Malekudiya had 80 percent attendance before he was arrested, currently he is facing 75 percent attendance shortage. His lawyer Dinesh Hegde Ulepady had said that Malekudiya can write exams with police protection as the court had so ordered. He will be writing four more exams.

    Dr. Kiran Acharya,

Your views on the second statement may be well justified, however, why you forget that, he did not bunk the class. rather he was taken into custody by police, hence he could not attend the class. In such situation would you be able to attend the classroom. Until and otherwise, it is proved he is one of the nexalite and court passes judgment against him and jail him, then only university or court can refuse him from attending the exam.
You have asked the “...If you are a relative of one such innocent civilian killed by a terrorist/ naxal, you would realize the pain.” Why don’t you asked yourself, if you or your relative taken into custody and labeled as nexalite, what would be the pain of that family.

Why do you forget, that recently police themselves killed their colleague and published that he was killed by nexalites during encounter.
Most important question here is “Who are these Nexalites” and “Who created them” and my answer is our political system, politicians and the personnel assigned to control our legal system (MPs / MLAs / IG / DIG / DC and so on). Dr. Acharya, I am sure you would agree with this.
You should have appreciated the court verdict and Universities acceptance to support him to attend the exam. What if, tomorrow, court announces, that police mistakenly taken this lad into custody and he is innocent. In such case don’t you see that his valuable academic year is lost. If you are registrar will you allow him to attend the exam separately?

    RE Jaimini PB:
Play of words is for human rights activists who support the likes of this "victim". When a anti social, anti democratic activist holds a gun and kills hapless civilians, i do not know whether he is a sympathizer or a labelled naxal...If you are a relative of one such innocent civilian killed by a terrorist/ naxal, you would realize the pain.
Here I am only commenting on the high handed interference in breaking university norms. Whether a terrorist or not, 75% attendance is a norm for writing exams. Tomorrow very same court/ CPIM might demand for grace marks for this guy!

Mr.Rajesh Shetty,Bahrain.I feel sorry for your ignorance about CPI(M) which has become a headache for Keralites now.Do you know Mr.Achudanantan?,He is Ex Chief Minister,Kerala(CPI(M) and Present Opposition Party leader who has given letter to Party General Secretary Mr.Prakash Karat about his unwillingness to continue as party leader after seeing barbaric act of his party workers.

Very recently,Ex CPI(M)leader Chandrashekaran was murdered with 57 wounds on his body.Whole Kerala is showing finger at CPI(M)..For your information Mr.Achundanandan is with CPI(M)for more than 5 Decades! He himself got fedup with his own party..Super star Mohan lal,Suresh Gopi and many film personalities have already shown their anger towards Communist Party.I think very soon Communist Party will vanish from Kerala because it has become Criminal Party of India..

Dear Kiran Acharya..I didn't expect negative comment from you.One thing is sure, our Police Department missed a Golden Opportunity to convert his mind and bring him to the main stream.(He is not a Naxal but definitely a Naxal sympathizer). And Vittal could have guided his friends not to join Naxal, had he been treated well.
Once DIG of West Bengal called up Malayalam Super Star Mohan Lal and congratualted him for his role in Hindi Movie "COMPANY" ,He said "Real police should treat criminals & prisoners in such a diplomatic way like Mohan Lal did in Company and there is a chance of criminal becoming very good person after his/her release"

A University boy, aspiring for career, how come police implicate him for naxal links. Even so, he is just a teen age boy. Is our law is so impartial, crude to the poor on one side and lenient to the real criminals on the other.

All those with attendance shortage, please contact CPIM, Fast Track Court.
A bad precedence has been set by the University as well. From now on all those students with attendance shortage might claim naxal links & write the exams!

It is a good gesture by University to allow him to write the exams. His attendance shortage was known valid reasons. He may or may not be a culprit...but continuing education must not stop.

It is the sole effort of CPIM Party who mobilized public awareness and legal support for the case.Local and Central leadership of CMPIM, particularly, RAJESH Member of Parliament and Prakash Karat,General Secretary CPIM who are fighting this sensitive case politically and legally.FAST TRACK COURT HAD TAKEN RIGHT AND DECISIVE DECISION TOWARDS VITTAL MALEKUDIA WHICH IS APPRECIABLE.
