Udupi, May 22: The former Shimoga MP K G Shivappa passed away here on Tuesday May 22.

He had been ill and suffering since December 2010 after he went with an accident. K G Shivappa was severely injured in an accident when he hit his car to a roadside tree at Heggere Cross near Choradi on Tumkur-Honnavar national highway No 206 on Friday Dec 11, 2010.

He was traveling with his wife to Shimoga from Sagar when the accident occurred. He lost control over the vehicle and rammed into a tree. He sustained head injuries and lost consciousness due to excessive loss of blood. His wife had fractured her hands.

The couple was immediately rushed to the Nanjappa Hospital in Shimoga where they were admitted to the intensive care unit. For a month, he was in Adarsh hospital, Udupi.

He had won parliamentary election from Shimoga constituency in 1991 as a candidate from the Congress party. Later, He quit the party in 2008 and joined BJP.

Vishweshwar Bhat Kageri (state secondary education minister), Raghupathi Bhat (MLA), Sunil Kumar, Kuiladi Suresh Nayak and others visited him to the hospital to pay the final respects.
