Kasargod Becomes First District in Country to Adopt Total E-Governance

Daijiworld Media Network - Kasargod

Kasargod, May 28: Kasargod in Kerala has become the first district in the country to adopt total e-governance. All its local bodies, be it gram, block or taluk panchayat, have become fully competerized.

On May 31, Udma will be the final town to be computerized. The service will then be formally inaugurated at a state-level programme.

The move will enable all local governing bodies to render their services online. Billing, birth and death notices and other records can be obtained on the internet, apart from information on public services, schemes, budget, proposed schemes and so on.

Though the process of computerization was almost over by April 1, two gram panchayats faced technical problems and hence there was a delay.

Now, 38 gram panchayats, six block panchayats and three city municipals will be fully computerized. The project is being executed under Information Kerala Mission's 'Sankhya Software'. By the end of the year, the entire state of Kerala is expected to adopt total e-governance. So far, 345 gram, 13 block and 12 district panchayats in the state have become fully computerized.

I'm glad the eGovernance fever emerges slowly but surely. E-Governance is a "jinxed" word in our country. Means, what good it does to the citizens?

It will be interesting to know what people services are introduced and further planned through e-Governance rather than tall claim of Total eGovernance.

Can I register a simple complaint of a bad road or no water supply and transparent resolution published for people to see? Are any responsible people names listed for contacts? This would be great.

Don't tell me eGovernance means enforcing government on citizens. Rather it should be govt. reaching the citizens for making their life easy.
