Heartfelt sympathies to the next of kin of those who perished in this tragic disaster! Despite boasting of following the highest safety standards in the world, Villagio mall allegedly did not have an effective sprinklers or proven escape system for the most vulnerable place, the kids area! This shows the callousness on the part of the authorities while planning the mall (aesthetics took over safety)!!! I am unhappy with the cheap comments posted by Arun Hegde exonerating the deaths of innocents! I urge him to try to be a Qatari at the earliest!!!

Sad and unfortunate incident. My sympathies to all loved ones who are deceased. Fire, Road Traffic accidents and any sickness never tell us before its arrival. So this Villagio fire incident is a problem of loopholes. There is no other place as safe as Qatar on this earth. Look at those fire fighters gave their life. And you Mr. Andrew, there is no need to talk about India here. Where are you comparing a country with more than a billion population to a country with few lacs population? You need to keep respect of your own country so that others will respect us.

Sincere herart felt sympathy for those who lost loved ones..Loss of life to this magnitude irrespective are not acceptable, especially with regards to children. The fire dept fire prevention and code enforcement should have never allowed placement of a kinder garden in a high risk commercial structure. Who will be kept accoauntable for this gross negligence. Why where the fire dept not aware of the kinder garden location...? why did they need maps...? The fire dept operations should have had conducted site visits to familiarize themselves with the the risks and draw pre plans...that is if there was any..?

The facilities manager, the resident engineer, the contractor of villagio mall should go to jail.

They were very irresponsible, they do not know how to do their job!

I believe Civil defense will now be much extra careful on giving occupancy or residential permits.

To all the contractors, don't be a fool! Implement what is right!

How could this be allowed to happen? I had a day care for several years & could not operate if there were not ample fire exits and windows - always kept clear of snow etc. These children and their teachers did not have a chance! SHAME, Qatar, SHAME!

It is the most unfortunate tragedy whereby 19 people were killed in Villagio Mall. The fire department did a good job by pulling out victims from the roof top. May the soul of the departed souls rest in eternal peace and give comfort to the deceased family and friends.

How is Qatar going to host world cup, a country that does not have enough safety measures for a mall?
Qatar is NOT interested in building an Infrastructure. Just put up buildings quickly and collect rent -that's all they care about - money money money and nothing else.

Very Sad incident, Can't believe the death of innocent children. women & fire fighters. One thing I observed in the Gulf that even after spending million dollars on fire protection / detection system ,buildings are not safe . Reasons are either fire detection /sprinkler systems are not maintained properly or not properly designed . In UAE the fire incidents are common. Fire Accident can happen any time anywhere but how well we prepared in an emergencies is important to reduce impact or causalities . How many of us know , how to use a fire extinguisher? May No or few .In Some building even extinguisher & hose reels are kept locked or access blocked or not functional

Very tragic and sad incident. This is the time mercury shooting up to 50C plus temp that some time creates short circuit resulting in fires. But in Malls of international std, preventive mechanism system is in force by and large. The cause of causality is a cause of concern.May souls rest in peace.
