Mangalore: Jagan Reddy's Arrest Brings Hardship to Commuters in Twin Districts!

Mangalore, Jun 6: Following the arrest of Andhra Pradesh YSR Congress leader Jaganmohan Reddy on May 27, a weird problem has begun to haunt the twin coastal districts of Karnataka.
Ever since his arrest, the work on national highway 66 has come to a halt. What is the connection, one may ask. Well, the highway is being built by his company.
The contract to widen the NH 66 was given to Navayug construction company owned by Jagan. But the work had to be suspended after the court passed an order to stay all financial transactions of the company.
The widening work from Talapady to Kundapur is taking place in two divisions. The work on the stretch between Talapady to Nantoor (15 km) and Suratkal to Kundapur (75 km) was under way and had picked up speed. The stretch between Suratkal-Nantoor was given on contract to another company earlier. The total cost of the project is Rs 804 crore.
Except for some technical snags, the work was being carried out day and night over the past year. However, now with the court order, the work has stopped all of a sudden. A few labourers are working on the construction of bridges. A lone road roller is seen on the highway.
Given the speed of work over the last one year, the public had hoped that work would complete before the rain pummeled the coast. But now the people have to bear the brunt of a half-constructed highway, put up with a worse situation in the rainy days ahead, and perhaps wait for Jagan's release, or at least his company's.
