Bantwal: Auto Driver Infuses New Life into School Facing Threat of Closure

Bantwal: Auto Driver Infuses New Life into School Facing Threat of Closure

Daijiworld Media Network – Bantwal (VM)

Bantwal, Jul 4: We often blame them for being rude and demanding extra fare, but seldom see those auto rickshaw drivers who go out of their way to enrich other people's lives. Ganesh Poojary, an auto driver, is among the rare breed of individuals who walk an extra mile for noble cause.

The government had decided to shut down schools with less student strength, and one of the school facing threat was Ananthanadi government higher primary school in Bantwal taluk. It is to save this school that Ganesh put in all his efforts and energy, and succeeded too.

The students of this school are no way inferior to those in English medium. All facilities similar to English medium schools are made available so that admissions are in large numbers. Their success rate is at par with any English medium schoo.

Ananthanadi School has been functioning for 32 years now. Ganesh too studied in the same school, and when it faced the threat of being shut down, he couldn't rest easy and knew he had to do something for his alma mater. He swung into action and approached like-minded villagers for help, who were only too happy to do their bit. Both former students and other villagers pooled in whatever little they could for its betterment.

One of the things that worried Ganesh was that every year, the admission to Class 1 had been decreasing, directly impacting the overall strength of the school. Ganesh then took matters into own hands and bring the school development committee president, took various measure to boost admission.

Providing attractive uniforms, quality education and facilities at par with English medium schools were some of the steps he took, with the help of donors, villagers and the teaching staff. Now the school has undergone drastic change, with the number of students admitted in Class 1 shooting up from a paltry 3 to a decent 15.

Students learn English language from Class I and for this reason the committee has appointed a full-time English teacher. Colourful uniforms, bags, shoes and ID cards are provided to the students free of cost.

One always shares special memories and an unbreakable bond with one's alma mater, but what Ganesh and the villagers have done for their school would rarely have an equivalent.

Nice to see their colourful uniforms. But why the tie? It is a rural school and the cimate surely makes it uncomfortable for the children. This vestige of the Raj should be discarded. Mr Ganesh Poojary - congatulations on your good work!

If our govts would have been identified such people in society for karnatka rajyothsova, bharath rathna, padmashri, padma bhushan, etc awards , our suffering would have been reduced ! MEDIA should concentrate on this matter instead politics, crimes and bollywood gossip.

This is what happening in Karnataka,
Ministers concerned not even in his office, as he is busy somewhere behind yeddy. No one to see what Govt. Schools require, even if they are only Kannada Medium schools. When everyone else knows, teaching english as a subject is need of the hour, that foolish minister cannot think of it. Just passing tall promises "education for all" for the sake saying is useless. Actually these ministers are living in pre-historic age.
I wish Ganesh Poojary was the education minister.
Everyone should make it a point to salute Ganesh Poojary for taking up the matter and succeeding in his efforts with the help of villagers and donors. I would like to donate if I come to know Mr. Ganesh's address. He is a honest person, my heart says so.

If every village has one Ganesh Poojary then there would not have had todays situation of closing down government Kannada medium schools.
Its an great idea of teching English from class I itself in these schools.
We are seeing crocodile tears by our people, they send their children to English medium only.To counter this trend Ganesh Poojary's initiatves are ideal apt.His innovations should catch education department/state government to introduce them/make government Kannada schhols more vibrant. It is imperative to change the system/rules according changing priorities.

Let all of us wish good luck and congratulations to Ganesh & his team for giving second life to this school. We have seen many rich business men donate their money for good cause but this poor wonder man sacrifice his life and earning for running a Government School. Shame on our Government, one side our Education Minister made a law “Education for All” and another side same people pass an order for closure of Schools for lack of students. We need to change our education system so that, all languages starting from Kannada, Hindi & English should be taught from day one so that parents will not thing about another school which is far away from their village. Cute Daiji, pls publish their School Bank Account too, so that our beloved Daiji Readers would come forward and donate something as far as possible for them
