Beijing, Aug 17 (IANS): China has ordered the fishing vessels to return to harbour and suspended rail services in coastal regions that are in the path of typhoon Kai-Tak.
The storm was expected to make landfall in Guangdong province Friday, Xinhua reported.
A red alert has been issued, the highest in the country's four-level colour-coded weather warning system.
Heavy rains were expected in the regions.
Train services on Qiongzhou Strait route, linking the island province of Hainan and Guangdong have been suspended.
High-speed trains from Guangdong to Zhuhai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong were also cancelled.
About 50,000 vessels have already returned to harbour Thursday.
Since August, several typhoons, including Saola, Damrey and Haikui have hit China, leaving about 50 people dead.
