Mangalore: Rash Driving, Not Brake failure Causes Accident, Passengers Safe

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (VM)

Mangalore, Aug 29:  Two buses travelling from Panambur raced along the road on their way to the city. One of the buses rammed into a parked omni van near Urwa Stores.

To escape from being caught, the driver sped off assuming he caused injury to people in the van, although the omni did not carry anyone.

The bus plying from Kateel created panic among the passengers as they managed a narrow escape. The incident occurred around 6.30 am here at Ladyhill on Wednesday August 29.

The bus then went over the divider damaging electric poles and finally crashed into the compound wall of the Ladyhill School.

It is learnt that the bus was carrying around 80 passengers and all escaped unharmed.

The driver falsely claimed that the bus underwent brake failure as reported previously.

Employees generally tend to respond to how they are measured. Rewarding drivers for transporting people and goods from point A to B "as quickly as possible" is one of the key reasons (although not the only reason) for such accidents on an almost daily basis. Employers need to emphasize and reward their drivers for both, safety and efficiency.

The drivers are the symptoms of the disease. The real nasties are the owners. Unless they are forced to bear the direct responsibility for actions of their staff, there will be no reason for them to change anything.
Penalising them will hopefully ensure that better driver training, safety standards and correct "incentives" to well performing staff are given.

IF THE CAPACITY LIMIT IS STRICTLY ADHERED TO, SCOPE FOR THESE TYPE OF COMPETITIONS ARE VERY MUCH LIMITED.
WHY THE RTO / DC NOT ACT ON RULES AND REGULATIONS WHEN THEY SHOW SPECIAL INTEREST ON INCREASE IN BUS FARES VERY OFTEN ?
SHALL WE HOPE THE PEOPLE REPS. WILL WAKE UP ATLEAST BY THIS MOMENT FROM SLEEPING DRAMA SO THAT COMMUTERS WILL HAVE A SIGH OF RELIEF TO SOME EXTENT.

Mr. Shekar Moily, who cares about the safety of people and other road users. Most drivers of our bus and auto are horrible creatures, rash negligent with least regard for rules and regulations of traffic and scare away other road users honking overtaking on the wrong side driving dangerously close to other vehicle. Driving the vehicles as if they are racing buffalos on the road. No one can rein them. General public can only be spectators. Who has guts to challenge them.

    Dear readers
Comments and counter comments have been pouring in since Obiraya time. But reaction is up to the whims and fancy of RTO official and private bus owner's lobby.Poor passengers are the real sacrifice goat. This trend can not be stopped as long as corruption in the system prevails. This is the real litmus test for hapless passengers.
Safety of passengers is forgone case which is at the cost of greedy bus owners. This is simple logic when the bus is having the capacity of 42 seats, how can bus drivers/conductors are allowed to carry more than 42 passengers. What are and where are RTO officials?.Are they allow bus owners to play in the life of poor passengers. Here the isssue is whether drivers are fully qualified/educated to drive the vehicles sensibly? That too during rainy season on slippery, slush road. What RTO officials are doing? Can't they take action on errant drivers, senseless and erratic driving?.RTO officials please,it is not too late, awake and do some justice in the best interest of passengers.Human life is very much precious than your greed for your money/Haftha.Many times many things have been said in this column. You have been assigned to do your duty not for amassing wealth.God please save us.Jaago RTO

    Dear Concerned,

Could you please explain us why are the buses in city over crowded?

Isn't it your responsibility to have a control on over crowding of buses and over speeding?

This is not the first accident reported then Why no action is being taken against these reckless drivers?

Are the passengers who are helpless travelling in public transport are safe ?

We have a National Highway without Street lights and sign reflectors and the dividers are not even visible at night.

The lane marking paint has also disappeared and its tough to drive at nights.

In Kulur junction (near the International Flyover) in One way lane suddenly we find vehicles coming from both ends and that too there are no Caution signals indicating merging of Roads. Any new person drives there then we can surely expect an major accident.

Anyways.. list will go on...... Good Luck N drive Safe

They should penalise the bus company for not maintaining the bus well. Things could have been much worse.
