Mangalore: City to Get Swimming Pool of International Standards Soon - Minister

Mangalore, Sep 2: "The city will soon get a swimming pool of international standards. The project will be undertaken at an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore and the blueprint will soon be ready," said M P Appacchu Ranjan, state youth service and sports minister, here.
Addressing the media on Saturday, the minister said that the work on construction of full-fledged outdoor and indoor stadiums in every district has been discussed.
"Permission has been obtained for construction of a shopping mall in the district stadium. Stadiums will be constructed depending on the kind of sports preferred by the district," he said.
"Necessary steps will be taken to solve the problem of shortage of coaches in the state. Every taluk will have a coach. Currently there are only 93 coaching related officers, and their number will be increased to 416 soon," Ranjan informed.
"Work has been initiated under D V Sadananda Gowda’s youth policy brought about during his tenure as the chief minister. Programmes will be carried out to build youth clubs at gram panchayat level which will be recognized in the taluk and district levels.
Addressing reporters, N Yogish Bhat said that the national youth convention held earlier this year fetched a profit of Rs 3 crore. "The amount will be utilized for the construction of the international swimming pool in Mangalore, and area for the pool has been earmarked in ‘Vanitha Vana’ in Hat Hill. This has already been brought to the notice of the sports minister and talks are on to utilize 2.5 acres of land in 'Vanitha Vana' to serve the purpose," he said.
