Mangalore: Home Stay Attack - Families of Four Accused Claim Innocence, Seek Justice

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (VM)

Mangalore, Sep 4: In connection with the recent attack on Morning Mist Home Stay at Padil, families of four of the accused claimed that they were innocent.

The families of Tharanath Kannur, Venugopal, Tharanath Alva and Rajesh, who are in custody, claimed during a press meet here on Tuesday September 4 that the four had nothing to do with the incident.

Chandrika Alva, wife of Tharanath Alva, Vidyavathi, wife of Venugopal, Nalinakshi, wife of Ramesh Kotian, Sri Vidya, sister of Rajesh and Sarvani, Tharanath’s mother addressed the press meet.

"In this regard, we have sent an appeal to the commissioner, the deputy commissioner and even police superintendents a month back, but have not got a positive response," they said.

Chandrika Alva said that Venugopal and Tharanath Alva did not have anything to do with the incident. "They were only spectators at the spot and that too after the incident took place. My husband has not been involved in any immoral activities till now," she said.

"Tharanath Kannur was not in Padil when the incident took place," claimed his mother Sarvani.

Vidyavathi, wife of Venugopal said that her husband was a rickshaw driver and was not associated with any organization. "The loss of the sole breadwinner has left the family in despair," she added.

Sri Vidya too said that her brother Rajesh was not involved in the incident. "He had been to meet his friend Subash Padil after watching the clips of the incident on TV," she said.

The families complained that they had not been given justice. "Ever since the arrest of our dear ones we have been running from pillar to post seeking justice," they said.

    @ Asha, Padil/ Nagori,

WHEN TWIN TOWERS WAS BOMBED BIN LADIN WAS NOT IN NEW YORK.
    - I didn't know these guys had something to do with world trade center. I don't see a point here.

THE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING AND THEY WILL FILE ONLY IF THEY HAVE EVIDENCE
    - Read my post. Police do not have any evidence against them. The only reason they're not being released is that there is strong public opinion against releasing anyone arrested for this incident - even if they are innocent.

IF YOU ARE SO INTERESTED IN BOTH THESE GOONS OR ARE RELATED TO THEM THEM WHY DON'T YOU COME DOWN AND STAND BAIL.?
    - First of all these are not goons. You don't know them, so don't assume. Secondly, we've had 3 bail hearings so far and they were all rejected.

I don't know all four of them, but I do know 2 of them very well. I grew up in Padil and have known Tharanath Alva (a.k.a Thanu) and Venugopal (a.k.a Venu) for 30 years now. I can vouch for their secular credentials. They are not part of any communal organizations, in fact quite the contrary. They are respectable family men, who are caught in the political cross fire. This is my opinion of them, you don’t need to agree with me, but let’s look at some facts to quell some of the questions the readers are posing:

    1. If they were innocent, why were they in the video of the incident : They heard about the attack and came to the scene after the police arrived. Their faces are seen in the video briefly when the police are around. There is no video of them attacking any of them – simply because they were not there when the attacks happened. They were arrested by the cops the next morning from their homes.
    2. Why has it taken their families so long to claim their innocence : Their families and friends started working on their release the very day they were arrested. They’ve met police officials and political leaders on a number of occasions to implore for their release – just by looking at the facts around their arrest. They’ve were given a patient hearing and told that if they’re innocent, they will be cleared of all wrong doing when all facts are established. The families allowed for the legal proceedings to complete, but now after 3 bail petitions being rejected, they have taken to the media.

While it’s understandable as to why they were picked up initially, it doesn’t make sense to still keep them locked up after 5 weeks. There is no evidence of their involvement in the incident. While what happened at Morning Mist was deplorable, keeping the innocent locked up is not the solution.

My sincere advice to all the ABVP or NSUI young students don’t spoil your life by indulging in scufflesm, goonda gardi and fist fight. Remember once again attack on morning mist doesn’t give twist, the judge is refusing to release HJV goondas from jail not even on bail. The families of four moving from pillar to post submitting petitions and their running was waste still they are in a haste to release but everything is in vain.

Jaggu, You are a youth of Mangalore but you lack knowledge and history of Mangalore.
Mangalore was very fashionable from 4 decades. Mangalore has produced Mr. World, Ms. World, Actors, Actresses and Athlelts.
Who told you how to celebrate the birthday by giving sweets to the mouth? That is only for KG children. College students celebrate in different ways and they are grown up and educated, India belongs to them.
Live and let others live. Do not interfere or meddle in other peoples celebrations. Perhaps you do not know how many religions, how many festivals and what kind of fashion exists in India?
We want our Mangalore to be a safe heaven for our future generation.
    Jai Hind.

Specially giving respect, for human being, teach them for a family value. now if you say my son is innocent or my husband is innocent. For present situvation you are the one people are responsible for this. let it be, you parents made misstake, now this correct time god will punish them, BZ god knw eveything, may be your son or husband is creating story but GOD knw eveything . leave it for a god.

Whatever it may be. The innocent must not be harmed or punished. People should not lose faith in the administration and in our justice system... Naxalism is one of the products of such injustice...My sympathies are with affected families. No innocent should be booked. Police should have enough evidence to book and arrest some one. Be them be muslims, christians or hindus, first and foremost they are human beings and lives in our society. They will have to face the society once they are released. If they are innocent as claimed by the members of family, the administration must release with immediately giving them a clean chit by calling a press meet.

In my previous comments(on the day of these attacks) i had told that Taranath anna and Venu anna were very good guys.I still doubt that they were invloved in such acts.I hope what their family says is true, the police understands it and these 2 are released from police torture immidiately.
