Terror Follow-up: Police Chief Appeals Media to be Responsible

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, Sep 5: Jyoti Prakash Mirji, police commissioner recently called for an informal meeting of all the newspaper editors and heads of news channels regarding the recent terrorism issue in the city. In the meeting, he appealed the media to cover the incidents in a very fair, objective and impartial manner.

He requested not to publish or air any unconfirmed reports and not to go for speculative reporting of the case.  He urged them to confirm regarding any news from the senior police officers. Police officials are doing their duty in a fair and judicial manner to unearth the truth, he said. The duty of the police is to place the facts before the courts and the courts decide whether the accused are guilty or not, he added.

He also said that reporting of unsubstantiated news will create unnecessary panic and commotion amongst the citizens which needs to be avoided.

rather than blamming to media, police cheif would have issued one official report signed by cheif of police to media or they could have published it in police website, it would provide accurate news to media and public, seems like now police department trying to cover there mistake, dont say later that they cought innocent citizen in wrong information coz it already damaged minority trust on police.

Why don’t the Home Ministry direct every district to have a News Room to give regular Press Releases to the members of the recognized media? The Media Relations Director in the police HQ should have an open and honest relationship with the press to foster a positive working environment with members of those recognized media. The police should give the press the guidelines of their limits in cases that are under investigations so that there is no external influence or dampness in the judgments.

Most of the media are biased in publishing stories about one particular community. They always cook up stories as if they were waiting for some masala news just to spoil the image of the entire community, but why they are totally silent when the same people proved to be innocent, most of the media's totally lost the social responsibility they are having. they contribute none to build this nation but only good at spitting venom.

I was watching TV and the stories of teror suspects with mirch masala was appearing on the screen. Please think twice if one inncoent found within this suspects what will be thier fate in the society. I was seen the interview of the boy booked under mecca masjid blast on cnnibn and his fate after release. dont flash thier photos with false stories and dont report more than what opr police officers brief. You can make difference from the way our news media presents by looking at the cover pages of news papaers, some are forgot to even mention suspect and dieclty put all the charges before our houarable court gives the judgement and Rightlt said DG but he is very late to make the point.
