Mangalore: Over a Thousand Pilgrims Given Vaccination Ahead of Hajj

Mangalore, Sep 9: A Hajj vaccination programme for the Hajj piligrims of DK and Udupi districts was held Yenepoya Speciality Hospital, Kodialbail here on Sunday September 9.
Yenepoya Abdullah Kunhi, MD, Yenepoya Group, Yenepoya Mohammed Kunhi, director, Yenepoya Group, H S Usman Haji, chairman, district Wakf board, Dr Mohammed Thaheer, Medical Officer, Yenepoya Hospital, Haji Mohammed Haneef and Haji M A Mohammed were present on the occasion.
Speaking to daijiworld, H S Usman Haji said that the selected 1,145 piligrims from DK, Udupi, Madikeri, Chikmagalur and Uttara Kannada districts are being given polio drops and vaccination. A training camp will also be held for the piligrims on Tuesday September 11, he added.
"All the expenses of the piligrims will be borne by the Hajj committee and the donors of the community," he said. This is the third annual piligrimage ever since he took over as the chairman of the Wakf board. "First year, there were around 785 piligrims, second year, there were nearly 850 and this year there are 1,145 piligrims from the five districts," he added.
Yenepoya Mohammed Kunhi said that the Hajj state committee had received as many as 16,000 applications this year, of which almost 6,000 people were selected in the state. Nearly 5,000 will be leaving from Bangalore and the rest will be leaving from Mangalore airport.
As many as five special chartered flights will be arriving at Mangalore airport this time. Approximately, 1 flight per day is expected to take off. The entire piligrimage will go one for nearly 5 to 6 weeks.
The pilgrims will who take the flight from Mangalore will land in Madina, from where they will go by road to Mecca and later after the piligrimage, come back by flight to Mangalore Airport from Jeddah. "The piligrimage is expected to start in the last week of this month, but the date is not confirmed as of now," Kunhi added.
