Mangalore : Govt to Release 9 crore for Wenlock Hospital Development

Mangalore:Sept 11 (DHN):  State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Aravind Limbavali gave the nod to develop infrastructure at District Wenlock Hospital at a cost of Rs nine crore. The fund, which was released to the district administration but not utilised so far will be used for  amenities at the hospital.

Speaking to reporters during his visit to Wenlock Hospital on Monday, he said that he would issue an order to the Deputy Commissioner directing to utilise the allotted amount for renovation and improving dialysis centre, ventilators facility in the ICU.

“The administration of Wenlock Hospital which was in the hands of the Medical Education Department so far, has been now handed over to the Health Department. The order for the same is yet to be issued. Once the formalities are completed, the Health Department will take up initiatives to chalk out plans to upgrade the hospital,” he added.

He said the Department has taken the initiative to provide health care to the poor by extending Vajpayee Arogyashri health scheme to cover BPL families in Bangalore and Mysore revenue divisions. The scheme will be launched in these two regions at the earliest. It will cover 135 hospitals and the government will bear the surgery cost of the patients with BPL card.  The government will bear medical expenses upto Rs 1.5 lakh.

The government has also begun discussions on the introduction of Right to Health care act. In a recent meeting attended by  the Chief Minister and expert doctors, the doctors too have favoured the need to implement the Act, he said.

Responding to the request of nurses to regularise their services, the Minister said the Chief Minister has already constituted a Cabinet committee for the purpose. The committee would take dicision on regularising the services of 5000 male and female nurses who were hired on contract basis. The issue will be discussed in the meeting and the decision will be taken, said Limbavali.

Deputy Speaker Yogish Bhat submitted a memorandum to the Minister.  The demands included, improve facilities in jail ward and psychiatry ward of Wenlock Hospital, upgrading ICU, staff quarters, open a super speciality wing, upgrading the 250 bed Lady Goschen Hospital to 500 bed.

Wenlock hospital is now capable to undertake MBBS and Post graduate courses. Why is the Government delaying using the facilities to run a full fledged medical/Dental and Nursing college rather than give the facilities to be used by KMC and other nursing institutes. Hope the concerned minister takes note of this at the earliest.

We have already seen the 200 crores used for the development of city roads. The roads we have now without drainage, no footpaths, lack of parking spaces, open drainage, deep excavations, totally unsafe for pedestrians, unsafe for 2 wheels vehicle riders etc., God only knows how much has been spent for concrete and how much has been spared for their own pockets?

Thank God atleast now they realized. Recently my fathers two fingers got cut and he had gone to Wenlock Hospital where we saw X'ray machines, Scanning Machines, etc.are not working. Patients are going by riksha to diagnostic centers and submitting the report to the Wenlock Doctors. For dressing we need to bring accessories from the Pharmacy. What you can expect from Govt. Hospitals?

9Crore - a huge figure. By the time it actually reaches the wards in the hospital will by Paise 9 or Rs 9. When we did our internship at Wenlock in the 1990's syringes had to by sterilised to be reused and gloves used to be locked up - we had to buy our own!

This is just hypocrisy. I know the sorry state of affairs there. The poor patients are not treated well and discharged even when they haven't recovered from what they were admitted for. These leaders know only to pose for photos. This is a gimmick as elections are fast approaching. The money will be swallowed by these politicians only. There are no bed covers for the patients near the ICU and when it rains post operative patients need to hold umbrella's. Only when officials announce their visit everything is in place.

Even the nurses shout when poor people are brought for treatment. No longer a noble profession. I saw on a Saturday last month a poor skinny looking man shivering with temperature and could hardly stand. The doctor himself led him out of the emergency saying " Come tomorrow we will then check for malaria and then admit you." He was pleading that his head is spinning and he cannot stand. Who the hell will be around on a Sunday. If this doctor is asking the poor man to come on Sunday. I don't think he lived till Sunday. That bad was his condition.
Rakesh Shetty and some of these people are quick to appreciate falsehood and criticize genuineness. Yogish Bhat is a good man may be he should look into these matters. Even destitute are being charged in this so called Government hospital.

At least BJP Party continued in their efforts to develop Karnataka in shortest period which we never experienced in Congress ruling of 60 years. Ballary Iron Scam surfaced and finally ended up in illegal mining only i.e. mining works carried out without proper permits from Authorities but as a Nation lost nothing. Now we have Coalgate Scam carried out with the permission from PMO and our Nation lost huge revenue benefitting almost all Congress Leaders. I hope now Paramesha Siddappa & team take reverse “Paada Yatra” up to Ballary to say sorry to Karnataka people
