Mangalore, Sep 14: Tension prevailed at KSRTC bus stand here on Friday September 14
after KSRTC employees, who are currently on a strike over salary hike, protested alleging that a private bus had tried to enter a KSRTC bus terminus.

As the situation turned out of control, the police had to resort to mild lathi charge to disperse the protesters.

Though the employees alleged that the private bus had entered KSRTC terminus, sources said the bus had not entered the premises for parking or pick-up, but only to take a turn.

However, the employees allegedly misunderstood the intention of the private bus driver and tried to stop it. Chaos erupted at once, leading to police intervention and lathi charge.

Tight police security has been deployed in the KSRTC bus stand. Situation is under control as of now.

KSRTC buses have completely stopped plying in the city in support of the statewide strike called by the KSRTC employees union. The employees have been demanding a hike of 30 percent in their salaries, and have threatened to continue the stir till their demands are met by the government.

Few days back most here had given comments in favour of plying KSRTC city bus, & where pressuring removal of Private buses. Now everyone can know the true picture if their comments had come into reality.

We coastal people are lucky as we have plenty of private buses. Moroever, why cant these Unions fight in duty with wearing black ribbon. At least the passengers will not be landed in trouble. Again the stone throwing part, some insane people are damaging our own travelling transport & innocent passengers... & some comments here straight away blame BJP. The Unions can go on strike if it is permitted by earlier Supreme Court verdicts & if passengers are not landed in trouble.

First of all we must see the case i.e. hike in oil/petrol prices.
The centre is purchasing Oil from International Market or subsidising the cost of oil. The local govenment must reduce their charges to reduce the cost of oil. I was watching a report that Gujarat Govenment has earned 8000 cores from oil revenue (local taxes) then whey we are blaming Central govenment for each and everything. This strike is in Karanata. Before all our readers were blaming Central govenment and now these people are hiding???

R.Ashok,Transport minister, playing with fire...before it engulf his ministry, law and order problem,CM/TM and KSRTC Union office bearers need to sort it out amicably. So far Transport minister playing prestige game which is not good for the state of Karnataka. There are more than thirty three thousand TRAINEE personnel,on probation/temporary basis consisting of pool of technicians, drivers, conductors and office workers drawing meager salary of 4000 plus for seven years which is inhuman. All genuine issues of KSRTC staff need to be sorted out and in the mean time misusing the situation by private BUS owners not augur well for law and order point of view.
