Bantwal, Sep 15: Mangalore Lokayukta team led by SI Mohandas on Saturday September 15 caught Manila village accountant and his assistant red-handed while collecting bribe from a person for transferring the account of a plot which is under judical enquiry.

The arrested employees are Manila village accountant Ram Bhat (59), a resident of Mittanadka, Karopadi and assistant Krishna Naik (37), a resident of Kollatadka, Peruvai.

Ram Bhat and Krishna Naik

The Lokayukta team conducted the raid based on a complaint by Srinivas Poojary, a resident of Batyadka, Manila village.

Srinivas Poojary had purchased a plot from Shivaram Bhat on January 21, 2008. The land was registered by Vittal sub-registrar as per regulations.

However, as per court notice, the auction of the said land was stayed. Srinivas Poojary then informed the village accountant Ram Bhat on the stay notice. While the stay notice was issued on September 11, assistant Krishna Naik refused to issue the confirmation letter.

When enquired, Krishna Naik asked him to pay Rs 5,000 to speak to the village accountant and stop the transfer. Having paid an advance of Rs 500, Srinivas Poojary then complained to the Lokayukta with proof of the conversation recorded in his mobile phone.

Having received the complaint, the SI arrested the culprits red-handed while receiving Rs 4,500 from Poojary on Saturday.

Lokayuktha DySP Vittaldas Pai, Lokayukta inspectors Umesh Shet, Dileep Kumar and others were part of the operation.

    Dr. Gerald Pinto,
I need not advise you or tell you anything since you are very learned person.
However, your claim or information that that ministers are demanding Rs.10,000 for regularising teachers services, then you should complain to Lokayukta and lo see the result.
Try and get evidence about it.
whether small or big fish - do not you think they are in the same bracket- bribe takers

It is easy to catch small fishes. catch big fishes like ministers, ias and kas officers. I was told that special eachers are told give Rs 10 thousands each to regularise the service by the minister and it will run in to several crores. Cath this big fishes.

To all those who are having pity on the "village officials", you are missing a point. These arrests were possible because someone had the presence of mind to record the conversation on his cell phone and then give a complaint. If more of you would use this technique even on the big fish, then you can make a difference and reduce/control corruption. I congratulate the Lok Ayukta. Let us not criticize the officials when they do their job.

I think, L/ayukta received this complaint from S. Poojary, hence the raid / and the arrest for accepting bribe. Whether huge amount or small, it is a bribe and criminal activity.
If it had known by all of us that Poojary and lodged a complaint with L/ayukta and no action by them,
then too we would have commented that L/ayukta not interested in small cases like this.
Please decide - if we want corruption free government offices or the size of corruption matters.

Why Lokayukta can't catch the big fishes which are costing in cores.? what is the use of catching these small fishes costing a few hundreds or thousands.?
The bribe taken from these small fishes will not even cover the cost invested by Lokayukta to catch them.

First catch the big fishes, then the small fishes will automatically controlled.

Dr.Shankarnarayan, THIS IS HOW ONE CAN SHOW EXAMPLE OF LIFE IF WE CAN CATCH SMALL FISH THEN FOR SURE WE ARE CAPABLE OF CATCHING BIGGER FISHES TOO. Do small things first and move on to big or show the examples to big fishes here we are to show you lesson if you don't stop. So motivate these lokayukta officers rather demotivating them. Atleast they do something to society rather doing nothing inlife,.

In reply to Dr.Shankarnarayan..Have you heard from 'small things to great'...Corruption generally starts from lower levels and progresses to the nest level...just like like growth of human beings Dr. whether in goodness or in corruption/evilness...hope you got my point. so corrupution has to be nipped in the 'bud' for starters to be discouraged!

Excellent. This disease called corruption can only be eradicated at all levels only if people come forward and notify to the appropriate authorities and not fall for it. Although, we hear mostly large corruption cases, smaller ones like this, for instance is damaging to the lives of many in the community.

    Good job by local Lokayukta,

No matter, howmuchever small fish's Lokayukta may cath these small fish's, unless IT or CBI nets big fish's & Sharks like like Sharad Pawar, Karunannidhi, Jaylalitha, Mulayam Singh, Lalu, in Karnataka, Reddeys gang, Sriramulu, Renuka, Yeddy and his patlan, DK Shi, Dhrama Singh, Rama Linga reddy, HD Gowda Fly are behind bars for good, we cannot expect any transperency in anti corruption law in this country. This can only happen when the whole political system is cleanced with a strong anti coruption bill which our Govt will never pass. All they will do is cath some petty thieves and show off that , yeas even we do some work for the Gimbala we get not the Samabala.

I totally agree with Dr. Shankaranarayan, Mlore-Abudubhi's comments, Lokayukta Team can catch only poor people.
May I also add: for a poor person like Mr. Srinivas Poojary, Rs.500/-is much much worthier and high compared to those who are caught cheating millions or crores.
I am too confident, Lokayukta raids not only those Govt. Offices where complaint is lodged, but also make a frequent visits to these corrupt officers are posted and bring relief to the poor people.

Now a days these Govt. Officials take undue advantage of senior citizens, widows, etc in accepting bribes to do their work,as their childrens are moved out for better prospects. They should be given rigorus punishments so that corruption in Karnataka will definitely reduce.

What is the point in targeting these poor village accountants when the whole nation is corrupt? Top ministers are involved in 2 lakh crore worth of scams, and everyday we get to hear about new emerging scams like coal gate. Aren't we all corrupt in one way or the other? Ain't Indians use the government machinery to avoid queues? Ain't they approaching government officials for securing medical or engineering seats for their children? How Lokayukta will ensure that 1 .5 billion people of this country are not corrupt?. First, put your house in order. When father himself is a high profile chor why do you blame his children?
