Mangalore, Sep 30: Two died on the spot and seven others were critically injured when the pickup they were travelling in met with an accident here on Sunday September 30 night.

The deceased have been identified as driver Harish and worker Ramesh.

The vehicle is said to be belonging to MRPL.

It is said that the workers had finished their work at a construction site at Angaragundi and were on their way to Haleangady. Altogether 11 persons were in the vehicle, and all of them said to be from Sirsi.

However, speaking to daijiworld, the owner of the vehicle said that as it was a Sunday, the labourers were not on duty, and that only the driver and another worker belonged to MRPL.

The accident occured when the driver of the pickup vehicle lost control and rammed into the Baikampady bridge. The vehicle rolled over and fell on to the railway tracks below.

Panambur police rushed to the spot.

The RTO should create two circles closer to both the end of the bridge, at Baikampady Jn near Swathi Service Stn, in the south and at T-Jn near 'Sunil Complex' in the North, to check the speeding vehicles.
May the souls of the dead rest in peace.

This particular bridge itself is in a dangerous condition. If the barrier walls were stronger this mishap would not have occured.Condition of the bridge was highlighted several times in the media and even in Daijiworld.

Please ban all headlights above legal limit of 60/55w for eg. 100/90w, 110/100w etc. Most of the buses, trucks and cabs have it and it is a hazard. It simply blinds the driver on the opposite side. Especially private buses have 6 such lights and the vehicle on the opposite side cant see anything at all.

Be careful when driving. Now the traffic has increased so much in India, you cannot go for a fun drive any more. It is difficult to control when you speed drive. May the departed souls rest in a peace and I wish speedy for recovery for others.

There is no road safety. If there was a road safety like proper railings or barrier on both sides of the bridge, this accident would have been averted.
Development means not building high rise buildings, making resorts, arranging rave party, bringing foreign investment... in true sense giving utmost priority to the safety of the citizens. How far we are safe in our country ?.
