Mangalore: AIMIT Holds Orientation Programme for MBA Batch

Mangalore, Oct 2: The 2012-14 batch of MBA students (management quota) at AIMIT campus of St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Beeri, commenced their seven day orientation program with the inaugural session at the college’s main auditorium on Monday October 1.

Dr Oswald Macarenhas S J chairman – MBA programs, and dean, Dr Rowena Wright along with other faculty members gathered on the dais to celebrate the occasion.

The session began with a short prayer invoking God’s blessings.  Fr Felix Victor accompanied by the college choir led the students in prayer. This was followed by lighting of the lamp. Fr Ozwald Macarenhas S J, Dr Rowena Wright, dean; professor Ramesh  Kamath, dean ( student welfare) , the management club secretary – Sowin Varghese and a student from fresher’s batch all participated in the ceremony.

Fr Oswald Macarenhas S J warmly welcomed the students to the campus. He strongly advocated that the need of the hour was not just acquiring a degree; but laying a strong foundation of the fundamental principles of management and leadership skills. Fr Mascarenhas systematically introduced each of the faculty members to the new batch of students. He concluded the inaugural session by hoping that each and every student would leave the AIMIT campus after successfully completing the program with high regard for their alma mater and as ethical leaders whom society would be proud to emulate.

 ‘Learning to learn’, was the thought provoking session that Dr Oswald Macarenhas S J conducted after the solemn inaugural function. He exhorted the students to pepper their MBA education with fun and freedom, creativity, imagination and innovation. He emphasized the importance of preparing oneself for learning.  He reiterated that the more one is engaged in learning, the more and lasting is ones learning. He also impressed on the need of unlearning the wrong and the irrelevant to make place for the right and the relevant learning.

He concluded his speech by reiterating his vision for AIMIT - becoming one of the top ten innovative management schools in the world.

The next session by Dr Rowena Wright was on teaching pedagogy and course structure. She highlighted on the duration of the program, hours of instruction per week, requirements to be fulfilled for the award of MBA degree and details of internal assessments. The session was very interactive and informative.

The third session was titled 'examination rules and regulations'. Dr A M Narahari, registrar of St Aloysius College (Autonomous), the speaker started his speech by emphasizing on the relevance of education.  In his one hour speech he explained in detail the intricacies of the examination system, MBA course structure, choice based credit system, and the internal examination etc. The registrar stressed on details such as pass criteria, add-on courses, valuation system and the answer scripts review process. The session was interactive and it helped the new MBA aspirants to clear various doubts particularly about examination system.

The concluding session was ‘An introduction to the choice based credit system ‘, by the dean , Dr Rowena Wright , wherein the students were taken through the nuances of the choice based credit system so as to enable them to make an informed choice.

    Nice to see my friend D souza (kary) taking part in induction who after working in dubai and now in mangalore to do mba .hope AIMIT meets expectation unlike having faculties who are untrained in ethics lure students life .
