Transport, cinemas, petrol bunks and businesses functioned as usual. Schools, colleges and hotels too remained open.

Public transport too was unaffected and buses to various places like Puttur, Dharmasthala, Uppinangady, Udupi, Kundapur and Subramanya plied as usual.

However, due to the general perception that the city may shut down, business was slightly affected.

Udupi, Oct 6: The bandh called over the Cauvery issue received partial response in Udupi.
However, except for sporadic protests, the district was largely unaffected and life went on as usual with educational institutions and businesses remaining open. Public transport including buses too remained normal.

Meanwhile, South Kanara Photographers' Association, Kaup and Udupi zone jointly organized a bike rally and submitted a memorandum to DC.

“Leaders of Karnataka are interested only in fighting for chair whereas the leaders of Tamil Nadu and Kerala are concerned about their people. The farmers and residents in Bangalore are dependent on Cauvery river for irrigation and basic necessities. In the present days of drought it is unscientifical to let water to Tamil Nadu and Kerala," said Vasudev Rao, president of SKPA.

"In the coming days Netravathi river will also be affected in the same manner. All should participate in the protest," he added.

J S Janardhan Kodavoor, Udupi zonal president Sundar Poojary, Kaup zonal president Ravi Kumar were present.

Members of Raitha Sangha and Jaya Karnataka staged a protest in Karavali bypass of NH 66 Udupi by forming human chains and burning tyres.

Raitha Sangha vice-president Vijay Kumar Hegde, district president Janani Diwakar Shetty, district Nagarika Samiti secretary Nityanand Volakad were present.

Population of Bangalore has more than doubled since the 1990's and so has the drinking water requirement. There is a proposal to divert Netravati water eastwards to supply the other districts. Looking at the number and tone of comments here, Udupi-Mangalore people seem more interested in masala news like home stay attack.

I hope this is a bigger crowd than the 'home stay' protest. I would be ashamed if not.

90 crores loss bcz of this strike. Any use? How can any one change Supreme court order. Only thing to put pressure is all congress MLA's must resign and put pressure on UPA. Only congres party can do it. Others all party's are useless leaving water to Tamil Nadu and blaming congress party for nothing. P. M. Has just told to follow the instruction of Kaveri Pradhikara Samilthi. How many strikes since few days.

We have only one dam built by Vishweshwarayya ages back. Thereafter neither Karnataka nor Tamilnadu politicians have taken any interest in building dams nor have they found a solution to water crisis. All have spent time and energy in encashing this one dam for their political advantage.

All have been fooling the public asking them to agitate.

Public should spend their energy in agitating for more water and better management of water resources rather than supporting these goonda policitians in fooling people. Let them work for the purpose for which they have been elected.

NO ONE IS INTERESTED IN BANDHS NOW AS IT IS WASTE OF TIME AND EVERGY. WHEN THE SC PASSED AND ORDER TO RELEASE WATER TO TAMIL NADU THE KARNATAKA GOVERNMENT HAS TO RELESE WATER IT IS COMMON SENSE. LET KARNATAKA HAVE WATER OR NOT IS A DIFFERENT MATTER BUT NO ONE CAN GO AGAINST THE HIGEST COURTS ORDER. UDUPI PUBLIC ARE WELL EDUCATED AND KNOWS WHAT IS RIGT AND WHAT IS WRONG AND NOT LIKE MANGALORE PUBLIC WHO INDULGE IN GOONDAGIRI AND ROWDISAM, THOD FOD AND DADAGIRI. SHAME ON RULING BJP GOVERNMENT. ALL THE DIFFERENT ORGANISATION ACTIVITIES ARE IDIOTS. WHAT THEY GAINED BY BANDH ? NOTHING.

Playing with fire like setting fire to effigies, tyres and the like on public roads...the R.T.O and the police must act sternly. People must be educated how to protest peacefully and meaningfully.

The subsidy should be phased out at the earliest.
Domestic LPG cylinder for any bottling plant should be calculated on import parity basis, taking into account international prices prevailing thus, in addition to the Government subsidy, oil PSUs should not share the burden of subsidising domestic LPG. The BPL should get direct benefits and over all uplifting and please don’t suppress them with only subsidy but no growth.
Whatever the reasons for organising them, bundhs are very hazardous to the nation’s economy, and the daily lives of citizens. A single-day bundh is estimated to result in billions to the country. The industrial sector, that otherwise struggling, alone suffers a major loss. All these facts and numbers indicate that bundhs are causing a huge loss to the economy, but neither the government nor the victims are acting adequately to mitigate the loss due to bundhs.

Well Done ! Mangaloreans have shown that protest can be done without the destructive BUNDH !

While majority of population is now Mallus and Tamils , naturally there will not be a major show of support in Mangalore.

Bandh or no bandh, nothing will change anything. Only stupid people create commotion by pelting stones and burning tires and pat their own backs as if they have done a great job of their life time.
