Mangalore, Oct 11: Chaos prevailed at Padil railway crossing here on the Thursday October 11 after the railway gate remained closed for an hour.

The railway which was supposed to open at 8.10 pm showed no signs of opening even after a long wait. There was no signal from the station.

The restless commuters who were waiting to cross lost their patience and demanded that the gate be opened. When the guard did not respond to their plea, they reportedly assaulted him and even blocked the railway track, stopping a train that came by for a few mins.

Mangalore rural police led by circle inspector Ravish Naik and SI Sudhakar then intervened and brought the situation under control.

Finally, normalcy was restored and by 9.20 pm the track was cleared

Head of railway police team inspector Sanjeev Naik spoke to station master Santhosh, who said that it was not a regular or an everyday occurance. Such delays happen sometimes when there are too many trains waiting to pass, he said.

In reply, Naik asked Santhosh to create public awareness on the issue and urge for people's cooperation, so that such incidents do not recur.

It's is a bottleneck area in Padil, and so many times have been stuck at this crossing. Dozens have died, either because the ambulances have got stuck or the patients could not access immediate medical attention due to this rly crossing....worst still, this is the only access road for padil into the city!! Have been hearing about the underpass for a long time, but no signs of it coming through!!

We all so called "Aam Aadmi" , who are residing at Bajal , Jalligudde,Veera Nagar, Faisal Nagar & so on has to be united immediately. For us this is "Now or Never" kind of a situation. If the Central Govt / State Govt & Mangalore City Corporation are not bothered about our problems why should we vote them & elect them. All of them are good for nothing people's , Top to bottom fully corrupted. Irrespective of religion, its high time for all of us to wake up and fight against this issue. Recently our MLA promised that they will do underpass to this crossing. If the underpass work not starting before election , all of us will " VOTE FOR NOBODY" . Jago Politicians Jago !!!

Since am a resident in the vicinity am pretty much sure that till my lifetime wont see a solution to it.Every time its the same promises from politicians, municipality and railways.Ya only solution to this problem is a politician or a high rank officer should die stuck in railway crossing.Just see kerala how many overbrigdes have been constructed and problems have been solved.Reason being majority people in railways are from kerala.Dear Railway please see the stats how many people have died due to this crossing.Humble request to railway, municipality and Dear MP,MLAs of my area please sought the thinks and start the work with some permanent solution and not Fake promises because if work starts you all can make some money in tenders, contracts etc. and people of my area can live peacefully.

Before Laying any Railway line,The railway Authorities must see the infrastructure. Then in busy crossing they must construct the Over or under bridge Where ever it is necessary .Then this type of problem will not raise.

When Mamatha Bannerji was Railway Minister, she had told in the Parliament that within next 2 years all the level-crossing-gates all over India will be replaced with Over Bridges and funds have been already provided for that.

But since then 3 years have passed and absolutely no progress.
Chine has built 2000 km of Railway line in tough hilly terrain of Tibet in just 2 years and in India we require 10 years to construct just 100 km of new Railway line. Still we talk of overtaking China in development.

Railway gate employees are from Kerala,Rajastan or Bihar. This pepole are not cooperate with local Residence, their attitude is worst.some times 25 minutes before arrival of train they will close the gates. If we argue with them they will talk rudely with their language and they will note vehicle number and complaint to Railway police.
Bajarang Dal,Karnataka Rakshana Vedike must fight and replace atleast Railway gate Job for local pepole.

There has to be a solution to this nonsense. We have been crying for an overbridge since more than 10 years.Politicians come ,inspect, make a statement and that's the end of the story.o be honest, unless there is violence no action is taken in India. Its a fact.

B.Janardhana Poojary too did not do anything as an MP & Minister those days although he was taken to the spot.Years have passed by but without relief to the residents of Bajal area. There are Schools, Church, Mosque & a Temple besides over a thousand houses.City buses too plies on this route/ road.It is high time a flyover is built and not an underpass which will flood during the monsoon season considering the topograpy of the area around the railway crossing.

The street lighting too is very poor around the area ,also considering the Mangalore Junction ( Kankanady ) Railway Station in the immediate vicinity.

High time the Railways start work on the overbridge. You cannot hold the public to ransom. The Railways should have built it when they commenced work on the Port / Konkan Rail route as the Bajal road existed prior to that. This is sheer " poor planning ".The then Mangalore Muncipality should have insisted on the flyover those days itself. Our MP's & MLA's too have done nothing much. This would not have happened in Kerala State.

My in-laws live in Bajal.I too suffer from this gate closure many a times.Sometimes the gate is closed for almost 20 minutes at a stretch.
