Mangalore, Oct 12:
The families displaced by Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) project, and whose fertile agricultural lands were notified, are facing yet another threat of losing their ancestral temples in Nellidadi, Bajpe area.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday October 12, Laxmana Chowta head of the Nellidadi Guttu family said that of the 1,800 acres of land notified for the first phase work of MSEZ, the notification order affects the agricultural land in which Nellidadi Guttu Kantheri Dhoomavathi Temple and Nellidadi Guttina Mane too are located.

He said with the stages of land acquisition complete, 800-year-old Nellidadi and Kantheri Dhoomavathi temples are also facing the danger of demolition. "There are 18 houses and none of them agrees to the shifting of temples," he said.

"Though the lands in Kalavar, Bajpe, Permude and Nellidadi were notified for the first phase of SEZ at the same time, petition was filed in the court of law against land acquisition in Nellidadi. Also, fight to save Kalavar Benkinatheshwar Temple was successful. When the protest was planned to save Nellidadi Guttu, the then MD of SEZ, A G Pai assured us that Nellidadi Temple would not be harmed. Believing him, two acres of land in Paila, Bajpe was given to the company," Laxmana Chowta said.

However, plans have been made to acquire the land in Nellidadi. Agricultural land in the area has been damaged by filling soil and the historical Nellidadi and Kantheri Dhoomavathi Temples have been facing the threat of demolition.

He said MP Nalin Kumar has assured of safeguarding the temples. "The families are ready to give their lives but will not allow the demolition of the temples. A case in this regard has already been filed in the high court," he said.

Chandrika of Nellidadi said that her house was demolished on May 10 and no compensation package was given to her as promised by the SEZ officials.

Kishore Shetty, Suma B Shetty were also present at the press meet.

MP Naleen Kumar is not a court. He won't try to build for you decent houses but will manipulate your religious sentiments only to gain power. In the process he will get what he wants and you will continue in your misery only trusting in God's mercy.

I am amazed to read Mr. Shetty's commments? looks like he have come from different planet. The temples and places of worship are placeof faith. it has kept the faith of life of people for centuries.. the temples and places of worship have not done any harm to the environment, in fact these places have protected the environment and protecting our nature and environment is the abode of god. God is no where but, it is in the innerself of a seaker. Temples are sacred place were a seaker and believer with a concentrated mind can see, talk and listen to god. we need companies but not at the cost of the destruction of the our fertile land.. companies can be built anywhere but, fertile land and clean and pure water is scarce. out of whole Karnataka united Dakshina Kannada had a cleane enviornment, clean water and people with sanity and culture. The culture was preserved for ages despite the people ofr DK travelling all over the world. The culture of Dkites is what have united us and made our presence feel anywhere. if not our land, language ,temples and culture we are just like anyother people and there is nothing left for our identity. we have no right to snatch the identity of our future generation instead we must preserve it. wst coast of India is also a very fargile place ecologically - it brings the first rain to the whole country . the mountains, hills , trees of whole western coast of India right from Kerala to Goa is important for the country. destroying them will end up with a costly affairs for the country. I hope people like Shetty understands it .. there is much more than just minting money - our planet is superior - we have to protect it as much as possible.

Hats off to your song like when rome is burning nero is fiddling. You never understood the pain of people who are fighting for the agricultural land and Temple. No, objection for the economic development of our country, but we have to plan very well about where to bring project like MRPL or OMPL. This projects should not come in the rich fertile agricultural land of Permude or Kalavar. We done lot of damage to our village. You will understand the value of green belt of Kalavar , Bajpe and Permude only when you go to Gulf. Falling behind money our people of Bajpe especially some Hindu's supporting SEZ in the case of Nellidadi Temple. In front of money all the people are ready to change their faith. This is unfortunate.

By giving land to SEZ all the greenery is destroyed. God knows what type of diseases will start coming to locals of Bajpe once the petrochemical complex creeps in. Also the famous Nellidadi temple should be preserved where the historical bandi used to take place every year.

The first ISRO office was St Mary Magdalene church in Thumba near Thiruvanathapuram.....

Later this church was made as Learning Center....

Similarly this temple can also be preserved...

Ancient Mariner sitting alone in a small boat lost in the vast sea and without any potable water with him but terribly thirsty, he sang like this:-
    Water Water Every Where,
    But no to drink.
Now in our district here -
    Temple Temple every where,
    but no holy God anywhere.
    For development,
    temples & Pseudo Parisaravadis
    are Stumbling block every Where.

Now this is a fight all those concerned about Hinduism should fight. Where are they now, those who attack bars, tell girls how to behave in public in their fake concern for Hinduism. You are not even bothered that ancient temples are being destroyed to further commercial interests. Now this is the fight you ought to be in, I am sure you are profiting from being on the other side.
