Mangalore: Two More Women with Monthly Salary of Rs 15 Fight for Justice

Mangalore: Two More Women with Monthly Salary of Rs 15 Fight for Justice

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (VM)

Mangalore, Oct 17: Last month, the case of Akku and Leela, who had been working for 42 years in Government Women Teachers' Training Institute at Udupi for a meagre salary of Rs 15 a month had evoked much public debate. Despite an order from the Supreme Court, they were not paid their salaries, which had stopped after they approached the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal for justice.

Now, another case similar to Akku and Leela's has emerged.

Elizabeth Tauro is as a sweeper in Government Teacher’s Training school at Balmatta for 43 years, while Padma works at Fisheries Junior College, Malpe, for 42 years, both for a salary of Rs 15 a month.

Going by their ages, both have retired from service and yet continue to serve in the colleges. The duo claims that they have been done injustice for years.

Addressing the media on Tuesday October 16, Dr Ravindranath Shanbagh, president of Human Rights Protection Foundation said that there are around 300 people in Dakshina Kannada who work for meagre wages.

Shanbagh said that the court had ordered the state government to pay Akku and Leela full wages along with interest since 1971, but the government has not taken action even after 32 months of the order.

Even the education minister is aware of the incident but he is not taking action, alleged Shanbagh.

Now that Leela and Akku have won their case, Elizabeth and Padma too have decided to approach higher authorities, he said.

Why don't these 2 Ladies stand outside KSRTC Bus Stop where the daily wage labourers are picked up by Anybody and they demand Rs.450 per day as wages (with food, coffee etc.)
Even Graduates Boys/Girls cannot get this much salary in Mangalore.
If you are illiterate you can earn Rs. 12,000/- per month. If you are Graduate/Post Graduate a mere 3000 to 5000 a month - Where is the Labour Inspector and Labour Laws?
Labour Inspector is scared of goondas and underworld - but shows his power with other organisations.
There is no value for Education now a days......??????

It is time to remove that bandana across the eyes of that statue meaning "Justice is blind", and open the eyes of the judges\lawmakers to give real justice, even if it is required the Jailing of a CM or minister for not adhering to SC order.
Even those uneducated, downtrodden are asking "Is there any other court higher than the SC, we can approach!!!!!"
What a shame to our judicial system.
This BJP Govt. in Karnataka is of the lowest of the lowest, considering tormenting these minimum paid workers and trying to pocket their money too.
If Yeddy is not involved in this scam, then let him come forward and use his offices (good or bad) to get these workers their dues as per law and as per SC ruling.
This may fetch him some votes, very badly required, if he is starting his own new party.
Common Yeddy, show you are for the people. I challenge you on this, that you can not do it!!
If you can not can you please post a line here, that you can not help these people. Asking too much from you I guess!!!
BJP leeches, sucking blood of even the poorest of poor. Hope you all suffer the worst kind of disease for using that money of the poorest of poor, for your pleasures.

It seems to be a typing mistake. One 0 is missing in monthly salary. If not, both parties(employer & employee) might have made a endless (unlimited period) contract 43 and 42 years ago and might have put a clause not to demand or give more than Rs.15/- salary per month under any circumstances.

Where is the Labour Inspector? they fix the wages ask the citizens to abide by the law and when it comes to Government Department why are they mum? It's not enough to harass the non governmental organizations who grease their palms and fill their pockets. Act if you have guts and give justice to these poor women.

In today's scenerio there are a lot of families having a hard time trying for housemaids/cooks/aayas and are willing to pay good salary. When Wives of daily wage earners from other districts are hired by localites and earn a pretty decent salary how come these women have not take advantage of this situation instead of rotting in these schools. Common sense should prevail too.

This case should be referred to Lokayuktha court and the arrears be paid to these victims as per present pay scale for the service rendered by them. It appears some one has forged the salary sheets for years.Audit will reveal the facts.

Our politicians loot in crores but the common people are struggling to eat two square meals a day.
I wish Vadra and DLF would employ me also in their companyif i can make just 2 crores in 2 years (I dont want 50, let Vadra keep it).
I wish Manish Tiwari and other Congress leaders dont take the IQ of the common man for granted when they say they are ready for the next elections.
