Mangalore: Police File 'B' Report in 40 out of 80 Atrocity Cases
Mangalore, Oct 29 (DHNS): Of the over 80 atrocity cases filed in various police stations under the Mangalore Police Commissionerate limits in the last four years, the police have submitted ‘B’ report in 40 cases.
This statistics was revealed in the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes monthly grievance meet held at the Police Commissioner’s office on Sunday.
Police Commissioner Manish Karbikar had sought the statistics related to the ‘B’ reports submitted in atrocity cases, in the backdrop of the Dalit community leaders expressing concern over the increasing trend of police submitting ‘B’ reports, in the last few meetings.
According to the statistics available, the highest number of atrocity cases have been registered in Panambur sub-division with the number reaching 52 in the last three years. Of the 53 cases, the police have filed ‘B’ report in 19 cases and chargesheet has been filed in 28 cases, while five cases are under investigation.
It is followed by Mangalore Central, where five atrocity cases each have been filed in the year 2010, 2011 and 2012. Of the total 15 cases, ‘B’ report has been submitted in eight cases, chargesheet has been filed in six cases and one case is under investigation. Of the nine atrocity cases filed in Mangalore South station, ‘B’ report has been filed in seven cases. Of the four cases filed in Konaje station in the last four years, the police have filed chargesheet in all the four cases. As far as Mangalore rural station is concerned, six cases were registered in the last four years of which ‘B’ report has been submitted in two cases and four ‘B’ reports were filed in Ullal police station.
Shobha’s death case
Responding to queries on the progress of investigation in the death case of Dalit girl Shobha, Assistant Commissioner of Police Kavitha said that the expert doctor’s opinion based on the post mortem report states that the cause for the death can not be ascertained.
Shobha (23) from Belthangady taluk died suspiciously at a city hospital eight months ago. She was serving as maid at a house in Shiv Bhag. Parents of the girl and Dalit leaders had demanded for the probe as the landlord family for whom Shobha was working, had not clarified the reason for her death.
As the report has not ascertained the cause for her death, the Police Commissioner ordered to take the second opinion of an expert doctor to find out the cause of Shobha’s death.
