“The contest is open to anyone irrespective of language or religion in the age group of 15 to 35. The only condition is that the participants have to dance for a Konkani song of any dialect or region”, says Eric Ozario delineating the rules for the contest.

Eric Ozario also pointed out that the event is open to anyone “because we want to provide an opportunity to a wider section of the society to compete in the event. This would enable even competitors from other languages to participate and to make it truly an All India level contest. Since the contest is open to all, the organizers have not prescribed any costume or dance style to the contestants so that there are no obstacles on the path for non-Konkanis to participate in the contest. To facilitate participation by non-Konkanis and to make Konkani songs easily available to the contestants a song bank has been set up in the website by the organizers.

“There is no definite definition for Konkani dance as such. Dance is always defined by rhythm and beat and therefore without making any rigid rules we have kept it liberal and open because we know the style and the costume will have to synchronize with the song chosen by the contestants. This is the best way to popularize Konkani songs and broaden our reach”, Ozario pointed out.
