Mangalore: Get Ready to Rock! 'Yaya Ind-ya Mayaya' Dance Contest Launched in City

Mangalore, Nov 11: 'Yaya Ind-ya Mayaya' the all-India Konkani dance contest jointly organized by jointly Jagotik Konkanni Songhotton, Nach Sobhann, Konkani Prachar Sanchalan and Mandd Sobhann, was launched at a ceremony held at Kalaangann, Shaktinagar here on Sunday November 11.

The event was launched by Fr Denis D'Sa, administrator of Father Muller Medical College.

Addressing the gathering, Fr Denis lauded Mandd Sobhann and said that there is creativity in every innovation they do. "You make a difference whereever you go and in whatever you do," he said.

Congratulating Mandd Sobhann on all the activities undertaken by the organization so far, he  said that Yaya In-dya Mayaya too will be hugely popular like the rest. "You think creatively and act differently, and you have a unique and rare way of doing things. I am happy that Mandd Sobhann fosters Konkani language, music, dance and culture and that such a platform is being provided by for young talents.

Addressing the contestants, Fr Denis said, "Grab this opportunity. It is not just academics that is important, but also fine arts." He wished them all the best.

Convener of the event Eric Ozario gave details of the competition and said that the contest was open to anyone, and only the song they choose has to be in Konkani. "It is a fair field with opportunity for all, and only the best will win."

He further said that the event is also fund raiser for undertaking more activities to promote Konkani language and culture in the future. Neary Rs 17 lac will be spent on this dance event, and our aim is to raise Rs 50 lac from it.

The contest has group and duet categories and this group or duet can be all male, all female or mixed and participants can vie for winning prizes worth more than 5 lakh in this contest.

Winners of the Group championship will get a cash prize of Rs 2 lac and first runner up will be awarded cash prize worth Rs 50,000. The second runner up and 2 consolation prize winners will get a cash prize worth Rs 30,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. In the duet category winners will be awarded cash prize worth Rs 50,000 followed by Rs 15,000 for first runner up and 10,000 for second runner up. Two consolation prize winners will be given cash prize of Rs 5,000 each.

Eric Ozario, Avil D'Cruz, Roy Castelino and Stany Alvares shared the dais.

Fr Denis D'Sa honoured artistes of Nach Sobhann on the occasion. Darrell Mascarenhas of Elysium band who composed the title song of Yaya Ind-Ya Mayaya was also felicitated.

Pascal Pinto, of Jagotik Konknni Songhotton, litterateur Vally Vogga, Elias Fernandes of Four Winds were given mementoes on the occasion.

Nach Sobhann team added a dash of entertainment with a scintillating performance.

Maxim Castelino and Disha Prabhu compered the programme.

An exhibition of currency from around the world by Richard Lobo was held as part of the programme.
