Puttur: Thieves Loot Gold, Cash Worth Rs 10 Lac from House

Daijiworld Media Network – Puttur (NM)

Puttur, Nov 12: Gold jewellery approximately worth Rs 10 lac was stolen from a house at Periyadka of Uppinangady here. The incident came to light on Sunday November 11.

Around 25 sovereigns gold and Rs 3.50 lac in cash were stolen from the house belonging to Yusuf alias Umarabba, a bidi contractor by profession.

When the incident took place, Yusuf, along with his family had gone to Madavoor.

The miscreants broke open the rear door and managed to decamp with the valuables.
The theft is said have taken place late night on Saturday November 10 and the neighbours noticed it the next day morning.

It is reported that the thieves broke open three cupboards and ransacked them. Clothes were strewn around all over the floor. It is said that the thieves even helped themselves to chocolates which were in the refridgerator.

Yusuf had reportedly brought home Rs 3.5 lac in cash to pay wages to the bidi workers. The entire amount was stolen along with the gold.

A case has been registered in Uppinangady police station.

In addition, futile theft attempts were reported in two houses near Periyadka under Kadaba police station limits the same night. The houses belonged to Adam and Kemmara Mohammed Rafiq. These two attempts failed as the family members who were in the house woke up when the thieves tried to break open the rear doors.

As many as six cases of thefts have been reported in the region, and the police are on the lookout for the culprits. Unconfirmed sources said that the people of Kerala were involved in the thefts with help from some locals. Houses of people who have family members working abroad have been mainly targeted. Hawala money is said to be flowing from abroad, which is said to be the reason behind the thefts, say locals.

Police Apathy

When the incident came to the light at around 3 am on Sunday, the neighbours and the locals immediately informed the police. However, the answer was unexpected. According to the locals, the police answered, “Why should we come now when the thieves have already left the spot?"

"Even though we informed the police at around 3 am, the police arrived at the spot only at 10 am," the locals lamented.

A canine squad and fingerprint experts then arrived at the spot.

"It shows the apathy of police officials towards the recent theft cases taking place in the vicinity," the locals said.

Thieves are watching you. They first make a good survey of your house. They look at the ladies ornaments. They keep a eye on withdrawn money or the cash came in. Its better to stop wearing Gold. Better not to keep much money at home.
