UAE's 2-month Amnesty for Illegal Residents Begins Dec 4

Abu Dhabi, Nov 14 (Emirates 24x7) : The UAE Ministry of Interior on Tuesday announced a two-month amnesty for illegal residents to leave the country without paying fines.

Major General Nasser Al Awadi Minhali, Assistant Undersecretary for Naturalisation, Residency and Ports Affairs at the Ministry of Interior, said the amnesty period will run from December 4 till February 3.

Minhali said residency and foreigners' affairs offices in the UAE will receive illegals in two shifts to provide them with outpasses and other necessary documents to fly out of the country. The illegal residents can also regularise their visas after payment of fines.

"Illegal residents leaving the country during amnesty period will be exempted from all fines. We have also launched a campaign through various media outlets asking them to approach residency and foreign affairs departments to avail amnesty granted by the ministry. Procedures are simple and exempt them from paying fines and penalties,” Minhali said.

The location of the residency and foreign affairs centres will be announced soon.

Minhali asked violators to seize this opportunity and call the toll-free number 8005111 to enquire any additional information. He said a call center will also be set up in Abu Dhabi soon.

He warned that if a person is arrested after the expiry of the amnesty deadline, he will face tough legal action.

He said campaigns will be carried out through media, in addition to the distribution of leaflets and posters in public places; shopping centers to publicize the campaign and its goals.

It is indeed sad to see so many of them have gone there to give a better living for thier families. It is no joke that everyone who go there spend thier lives toiling for thier families. Spending years away from thier loved ones. And just to realise thier dreams which didnt come true, most of them pay hefty amounts of money to agents. And most of the time they dont get the jobs or salaries or the facilities they are promised. Most of them suffer. In order to escape from this suffering they run away to find better jobs. In turn stay beyond thier visa validity.
And all boils down to this. Returning home to face unemployment, or atleast not the jobs they are trained to do, run into debts and into depression.
It is high time the government here tightens visa processing agents screws, (atleast some of them)and ensure they are held liable to get back these people to India if they are responsible for all this.
There is one life each one lives. In that one life these people who go there leaving behind everything to ensure a better life for thier families, must be given a chance, a helping hand by the government. Atleast ensure that this one life is not wasted.

Thousands of people will use amnesty and exit the country and within no time much more people will enter the country illegally or overstay. This is an ongoing process. Still there are scores of illegal residents who do not avail the amnesty but try their luck till they are caught and deported.

Its fact that many illegally enter the country and remain in the system. Embassy too cant do much. This is a golden opportunity for these unfortunate to get out of the country.
