Mangalore: National-level Seminar 'Neuraxis-2012' Begins at FMMC

Mangalore, Nov 23:
'Neuraxis-2012', a national-level neurophysiotheraphy seminar organized by the department of physiotherapy, Father Muller Medical College (FMMC), was inaugurated at decennial memorial hall, FMMC here on Friday November 23.
 
Dr K Mohandas, vice-chancellor, Kerala University of Health Science, and member of the board of governors, Medical Council of India, New Delhi inaugurated the colloquium by lighting the lamp along with other dignitaries. Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI) presided over the programme.

Fr Denis D’Sa, administrator of FMMC, Dr J P Alva, dean, Narasimman S, organizing chairman, and Sydney Roshan Rebello, organizing secretary shared the dais.
 
Addressing the gathering, Dr Mohandas said that care for patients should be the primary focus of physiotherapists and physicians. "Ego of different specializations should not come in the way of profession; instead they should work together as healthcare providers for patients," he said.
 
The main work of a neurologist or a physician should be to rehabilitate the patients to their normal life once they are cured, he added.
 
He also appreciated the institution for organizing the seminar and said that he was honoured to be part of it.
 
J P Alva in his address gave a brief introduction on the department of physiotheraphy in the institution. He said that the department has been organizing various programmes since its inception in 1994. He asked the delegates to make best use of the deliberation which would finally benefit the patients.
 
In his presidential address, Fr Patrick Rodrigues said that Physiotherapist and physicians should collaborate together for the good of patients. He lauded the department for their various achievements in terms of research, conference and others. Also urged the delegates to deliver the aspects learnt in this seminar to their patients.

On the occasion, Gopinath P A, a brave fighter who has been a regular visitor at Father Muller for the past 18 years, shared his experience with the audience. "I have undergone trauma and a rough journey for the past 18 years, as I am unable to walk. Ever since I lost sensation in my legs in a tragic accident, I have had to depend on others for my basic needs," he said.
 
"But through strong determination, with the help of my physiotherapist and family, I started getting back to normal life. From exercise till the modification of my car, my physiotherapist has taught me everything," he said.
 
"A physiotherapist not only work wonders but also brings back a person's life to normal," he said, thanking Father Muller hospital for all the treatment provided to him.
 
Professor Narasimman S welcomed the gathering, Cherishma Alva compered and Sydney Roshan Rebello delivered the vote of thanks.
