Mangalore, Nov 26: In a major theft reported on Sunday November 25, gold jewellery worth Rs 15 lac was stolen from a house at Balmatta.

Owner of the house Althaf and his family were out on the occasion of Muharram when the incident took place.

It is said that thieves broke into the house through the front door on early Sunday morning. A few of the neighbours reportedly heard sounds but did not suspect anything amiss.

The thieves decamped with 54 sovereigns of gold and Rs 8,000 in cash, altogether worth around Rs 15 lac.

The gold jewellery belonged to Althaf's aunt Zulekha and her daughter Samra, his wife's aunt Umra and another relative Nooriya Asif.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Althaf said that the family has earlier gone on week-long trips but this was the first time such an incident had taken place.

A case has been registered in the Kadri police station and investigations are on.

Bank lockers are also not safe as we have quite a number of examples in news, lockers being mishandeled by some corrupt bank staff. Then where do you all say to keep this little savings earned with difficulty and saved for the young ones??????????.what a pity, hope the police will do their best to grab the culprits at the earliest......

Even after so many daily incidents of house breakins mostly for gold and chain snatchings and the police warning the female folks not to wear heavy gold ornaments, the custom is on in full swing!! This is a blessing in disguise for the thieves and chain snatchers who are having a gala time with the sky rocketing price of gold!! Hope better sense prevails soon and people especially women take a cue from these incidents!!

I do not understand why people are investing their hard earned money in buying gold ornaments and storing the same in their homes!! Flaunting gold or hoarding the same in the house is a certain invitation for trouble!!

Instead invest in e-gold instruments and earn money instead of buying contaminated ornaments!!

No one to be blamed, other than Mr. Althaf & Family.

It is not the mistake of Thieves.
Thieves are born to Steal! You can steal their birth right!
Mr. Althaf stored lot of Jewelery in the house and left it is nothing but inviting a thief with all respect. Before also you went like and nothing happened means: it was a luck. But now it is: ನಿಮ್ಮ ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಡ್ಡ ಬಂದ ಬೆಕ್ಕು!
