India to Issue 3,000 Visas to Pakistani Cricket Fans

New Delhi, Nov 30 (PTI): India will issue 3,000 visas to Pakistani fans and an additional 300 visas to VIPs of that country to witness the upcoming Indo-Pak limited over cricket series beginning December 25.

For the first time, India has also agreed to issue multiple city visa to the cricket lovers of the neighbouring country provided they show tickets for the matches, travelling tickets and hotel reservation slips.

The decisions have been conveyed to Pakistan, Home Ministry sources said.

Of the 3,000 visas, 1,000 will be issued for the match to be played in New Delhi while 500 each visas will be given to those who want to cherish matches in Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Chennai and Kolkata.

Of the 300 VIP visas, 100 will be issued for the match to be played in New Delhi while 50 each VIP visas will be given for the four other matches.

The series would comprise three ODIs and two Twenty20 Internationals between December 25, 2012 and January 6, 2013.

The ODI matches will be played in Chennai, Kolkata and New Delhi and the Twenty20 games in Bangalore and Ahmedabad.

However, no Pakistani cricket fan will be allowed to cross the border on foot (the facility is available in Wagah). They can cross over by bus, train or can travel by air. No request for change of travel plan will be entertained once visa is issued while applicants must apply for the visas before Indian High Commission in Islamabad at least seven days before their departure for India.
The decisions have come following series of meetings held by a high-level special committee comprising officials of Home Ministry and security agencies in the last one month.

Sources said extra precautions would be taken before granting visas as several Pakistanis in the past have gone missing after arriving in India to watch cricket matches.

Foolish idea to issue visa's to our enemy country people... Why should we play cricket with them? It had been a war field rather than cricket in all earlier occations !!Dog's tail put ia a straigt pipe, when taken out will remain bend only... !Undoubtedly, expecting more terror attacks in India soon...Pehaps, Indian government would like to invite one or more Kasab...and it was not enough we suffered a lot earlier...Oh God save India.

I agree with you that we should have friendly relationships with all our neighbours, but I do not agree with the comparisons you are making with Europe. “The whole of Europe was once fighting with one another,” leave alone Europe, the whole world all through civilization people fought against each other, even India was divided into petty Kingdoms and one King was constantly in battles with neighbouring Kingdoms, and the reason for all those fights was Money and Power.

But in the case of Pakistan it is an open secret what this fight is all about. Kasab in his confession to police said that he was sent to India to kill and be killed, in the name of “Jihad”, I do not want to go into detail, but if you are smart enough you will figure out the difference.

This is disgusting considering the the 'stand' Pakistan maintains on harbouring and promoting terrorisrm in our 'soil'. The Kasab's ution and refusal of Pakistan to accept his body should have served as the latest 'eye opener'. This Government sure works with it's 'eye's closed'on every matter . Shameful state of Foreign Affairs....

    Dear Jaimini P.B,
Pl note not all Pakis are our enemies. Friends are more than enemies of India in Pak. People to people the relations are very good. Talibanis are also enemies of Pak. To isolate talibanis we have to strengthen our relation with Pak people. Peace and freindship with the neighbour will always be helpful and useful. By hate campaign you can only gain votes by communalising everything.

Mr.Aloka Nath..Pakistanis have been doing terrorism since 1947..Do you think that they become our friends all of a sudden through cricket matches..Haaa..It is hilarious. Already Talibanis sent a clear message to attack India for Kasab's hanging..Now Indian Government gave them RED CARPET to come and attack..VERY BAD.

It is really a good move to invite Pak cricketers and other public to visit India. It is good to make freinds with our neighbours improve cultural and trade ties for mutual benefit. The whole of Europe was once fighting with one another, resolved their differences, masked their boundaries, united in currency have developed for mutual benefits. We also have good relations with our neighbours like Pak or China for mutual benefit and aim at national development.
