Dubai, Nov 30: UAE Ministry of Information and Culture and the Embassy of India, Abu Dhabi, in association with Radio Spice presented 'Harmony 2012 - Celebrating Friendship', featuring the spectacular 'Goenchim Noketram', a Goan folk and musical troupe, on Thursday November 29 at Sheikh Rashid Stadium, Dubai.

The cultural event was organized under the leadership of Herman Lewis of Radio Spice 105.4, Dubai.

The main objective of the event was to unite all communities under Harmony, especially the two main Konkani communities of Mangaloreans and Goans.

The mega show began at around 8 pm with the introduction of brass band, followed by a beautiful dance presentation of evergreen hit 'Havn Saiba Poltodi Vetam' (Dekhni), a beautiful folk dance.

The main co-ordinator of the show Herman Lewis welcomed the special guests including the Consular General of India in Abu Dhabi and sponsors present on the occasion.  He also thanked them all for their presence and all the sponsors for their generous contribution towards the event on such a short notice, and especially Ronald Colaco, a well-known entrepreneur of Dubai. The welcome address was followed by lighting of traditional lamp and oath-taking.

Addressing the gathering, Ronald Colaco said it was an opportunity for all Goans and Mangaloreans to come together at a home away from home and be part of the harmony and friendship building event. He lauded Herman Lewis for putting up such a grand shown in a matter of just seven days and concluded his note saying, "Herman has brought Harmony today."

All the guests were felicitated with bouquets and honoured and certificates of appreciation were also distributed.

After the brief stage programme, wonderful Goan songs and traditional dances were performed, including Sobit Amchem Goa, Fugdi dance, Novelty Dances, songs, Tribal Gaudi Dance, Portugese Dances, Kharvi Dances, Medley, Baila, Mando and several lovely Konkani solo and duet numbers that entertained the crowd totally and left a memorable mark about Goan folk, culture, language and tradition.

The entire cultural show was conducted by emcees of the day Preety and John from Goa who kept the audience engaged throughout with their lively compering.

A very entertaining programme which we all enjoyed. Mr. Alfred, the lady MC Preethi was only making the programme a bit lively by adding a little humour on the mangalorean and goan culture without any intention of hurting anyone's feelings. It is a very difficult task to make people laugh & Preethi did a good job which was appreciated by all. Keep rocking Preethi.

The event was extremely well organized and presented. I feel the best song which entertained most was on Bollywood’s double standard or apathy towards Goan musical talent. Oh what a performance it was, I salute you Mr. whoever Mascarenhas you are, you sure made us happy with your superb display. Your presentation was never second to a bollywood stage performance. The second best was once again the same Mascarenhas joining Mr. Gonsalves for another song praising Goa. The voices so nicely blended – just like a menu of homemade Cashew fenny and Pork vindaloo. My God, the Goans sure know how to rock.

The credit goes to Marianela Mascarenhas for bringing together such great talent. Thanks Herman, Sonali and the entire team for giving us a chance to enjoy the authentic Goan warmth and the flavor.

The Mikasura (sound) once again raised its ugly head here and there. It will never stop bothering us. We call them just hiccups !

    Dear herman Lewis,
Hatsoff for the great show within a very sort period of time.
Just a reminder to the lady MC not to be too enthusaistic on stage and never to potrait our Mangaloreon and Goan culture is full of liqour and pork. It was really in bad taste. MCs should be more dignified on stage.

One of the most amazing community shows that I attended to in the recent years particularly the second half of the show which portrayed nothing but the existence of centuries long strong colonial influence over the region, on the konkan culture and especially on songs that I am very proud of for being a part of it.Felt like very fortunate to get a chance to watch a live romantic Mando performance that I used to dream always very often and to the melodies sound of mandolin & violin in the back ground. Thank you very much Goenchim Noketram for your persistent efforts in keeping the unique identity of Konkani music alive and taking into further beyond all boundaries. It is fact that Music streams through the blood of every Goan and no one can beat them when it comes to music and songs and you proved it in Harmony 2012 .Thanks Radio Spice for organizing such a wonderful show that is too within such in a short time.
