Mangalore, Dec 2: The CCB police busted a racket of fuel (diesel and petrol) theft and seized five fuel tankers on Saturday December 1.

A press meet was held in this regard at commissioner’s office on Sunday December 2.

Addressing the media, commissioner Manish Karbikar said that the diesel tanker under Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) contract had a separate in-built custom made compartment, where 100 to 200 liters of fuel could be stored. According to him, when the IOCL load fuel to the tanker, it is filled correctly. But when the fuel is unloaded at the petrol pump, certain amount of fuel remains in the tanker as it has a separate compartment. Hence it is a huge loss to the petrol pump owner, he added.

The tankers are operated under the banner of Ullalthi transport owned by U B Ashok (33) of Bantwal, who is arrested.

The arrested tanker drivers have been identified as Sukumar (28) of Madikeri, Chidanand (21) of Puttur; Kushalappa (25) of Puttur, Uday Kumar (35) of Shimoga, CK Smikil (29) of Belthangady.

Ashok owns seven tankers, out of which five are taken into police custody; one of them is in garage and another yet to be seized.

When CCB police seized the tankers, owner Ashok is said to have offered them Rs 3 lac, which is also seized by the police.

The police altogether seized five tankers (KA 19 AB 2003, KA 21 3532, KA 19 B 4841, KA 19 B 4847, KA 20 AB 6664), seven mobile phones, equipment's used to steal fuel, one EECO car, Rs 3,03,930 cash,  altogether the value of which is estimated to be Rs 69,29,285.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Dr H N Venkatesh Prasanna, CCB inspector said that the owner was into this business for the past four years. Adding he said, Ashok started his tanker business with one tanker and within a year he purchased six more tankers.

A minimum of 700 litres of fuel were stolen by them in a day, said Venkatesh.

Under the guidance of police commissioner Manish Karbikar, Muthuraya, DCP (law and order) and D Dharmaiah, DCP (crime), the investigation team was led by CCB inspector Dr HN Venkatesh Prasanna. The team includes PSI Vishwanath, Shyamsunder HM, police personnel - Shashidar Shetty, Ganesh MP, Ganesh Kalladka, Chandrashekar, Sunil Kumar, Dinesh Bekal, Tej Kumar

The drivers are the ones who indulge in such activities. Or else how can a cleaner of a lorry can buy 7 tankers ? All honest owners have sold lorries for want of good driver. Anyway I do pity on some good honest driver who have been loyal to the owners

There is no dearth of criminals, cheaters and frauds in this country. It is there in every field even in real estate. IT is a very simple logic "Let the people in this country go to hell, I want to keep myself & My family financially secured at any cost". Ratan Tata had said it is very difficult to be honest. The Law makers of this country i.e., Politicians do they follow the law they implement. The answer is "No". What more can you expect from rest of the people in this country. Rob Gold, Rob Oil, Rob Land, Rob Human for Ransom etc etc. Everything is in scarce but not criminals, thieves, cheaters, fraudster and rapits. We have enough of them.

    Ismail K Perinje,
Can you check every single tanker every day?????
The most simple way which is followed in the UK, US, Australia, NZ, France, Germany is to sound the tanks in the fuel station (Petrol Pump) and determine the quantity, take delivery in only those thanks sounded and after completion of delivery sound the tanks again and determine quantity. No matter if the tanker guy robs 100, 200 or 1000 ltrs he gets paid only for what he has delivered. Again in all the countries i listed above all tanks are sounded and recored electronically. We are still in the stone age.....

Which ever the government ruling either at the centreor in states, the people are under compulsion to tolerate various mafias:Sand mafia, land mafia, oil mafia, fake currency mafia, kiquor mafia, currency coin mafia(for melting)water supply mafia(tanker supply) et., Though the list is only indicative lot of illicite activities are under 'mafia rule.To say the least we can say that we are ruled by 'mafia regime'.What is reported herein a tip of the ice berg.Politicians are the main culprits and our police people know every thing as to who is who.If one gets the chance of listening to the police officer and local politician it will start like this:
    Police:Namaskara Dhanigalige.

Such instances are not worth a commendation until they really commit to what they are doing catch the ones looting crores sitting on top.MAYBE it be congress, bjp,, kjp, lpg, or whatever or whoever !!!!

Sure, this is just tip of the iceberg, also it’s not too uncommon for the bunk owners to adulterate fuels to make up for their ‘losses’ and in the process make some ‘net profit’ too and the ultimate victim in this chain is the end user of the fuel who ends up paying through his nose for the fuels with lousy quality.
