Crime on Rise in Bangalore as City Faces Shortage of 18,000 Cops

From Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore, Dec 4: Bangalore, which has emerged as India’s fastest growing and upcoming metropolis, is facing a shortage of 18,000 policemen.

This was disclosed by none other than Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister R Ashok, who is also the State’s Home and Transport Minister.

The severe shortage of policemen in Bangalore, Ashok said, was one of the main reasons for the rising crime graph of the City.

On account of shortage of police staff, increased migration of people to Bangalore and creation of new housing colonies in the city led to increased crimes, the Deputy Chief Minister said.

The State finance department has been urged to approve sanctioned posts in the Home Department to maintain law and order and strengthen security in urban areas of the State, he said.

The Centre has also been requested to sanction more training schools to give regular training to police in the State.

The Deputy Chief Minister said Karnataka presently had barely two police training schools in the State, which were totally inadequate to meet the requirements of the State.

Steps would be taken to establish one training school in each district to ensure regular training to newly recruited police personnel, he said.

There was also a need to reduce the training period from the existing nine months, Ashok said pointing out that it was advisable to give intensive training over a shorter period rather than taking too much time in training itself as it would lead to delays in infusing those recruited for policing work.

It is sad that they realised this end of their tenure. So far they were thinking about making money themselves. Through this recruitment of police and Doctors they intend to do money only and nothing else.

That is the incapability of BJP government. That means you are encouraging crime. If any government found 1% of cop also shortage then their duty to fulfill the shortage of cops immediately instead of highlighting 18000 cops shortage. From the day one of their government try to fool the 6 crores of kannadigas. Are you sleeping till gets the figure of 18000 cops’ shortage????.

This has nothing to do with any political party. However recruitment of responsible COPS and associated officers who work very hard to maintain law and order should be highly valued by paying them handful of salary plus benefits. This will encourage emerging youth to join this department. The recruitment process is solely the responsibility of Home department & HR. We should have standards that are applicable internationally.

Increase in the number of cops is it a solution to stop crime rate in the city? The system needs to be corrupt free so that criminals fear the cops and punishment. Money power, nepotism and influance from the authorities has diluted the fear of punishment for the criminals.

Thank God he realised and admitted crime is on rise. He is hesitant to admit who are the criminals and to which groups they belong to. Shortage of Cops ? Why ? Do we need cops who dance to the tune of dirty politicians ? Do we need cops when we have fundamentalists group of various Sene and jobless Moral Police who are above the law and cops under the blessing and protection of State Govt. This is another haste plan to loot the State before going to Kaashi after election.

Crime rise not because of shortage of force. It is because of desire for monetary, shortage can be replenished.
    Lack of implementation of etiquette
Bribery cycles starts from Minister -
    1) Appointment - Bribe ????
    2) Transfer - Bribe ???
