Mangalore, Dec 11: In yet another case of alleged fraud, a man has been accused of duping people to the tune of over a crore in the name of visa.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday December 11, CPI (M) secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal said that Ronald Melvin Furtado has looted over a crore from people after promising them visas.
Sunil said that the accused, Ronald from Bajpe holds passports in the name of Alwin Fernandes, Dinesh and others.
The accused has allegedly duped Rs 3 lac from Neville Wilfy Mascarenhas, a resident of Nagori who was present at the press meet.
Addressing reporters, Neville said that he got to know the accused when he was working in Israel. Believing that he helped people with their visas, he had provided the reference details of his friend along with a sum of Rs 3 lac on October 2009.
"However, so far, no visa has been provided and neither has Ronald refunded the money. When I enquired about the visa, I was threatened and sent back," Neville said.
In this regard, Neville has filed a complaint at Bajpe police station but no action has been taken so far. "The police are in his favour. He also has political and muscle power," he added.
The matter was also brought to the notice of the city police commissioner. In response, the commissioner asked Bajpe inspector to investigate the matter. "But even after instructions by the police commissioner, the inspector has not responsed to the complaint," said Neville.
He further said that the accused Ronald had opened an agency in Mumbai and allegedly duped several people in the name of visa and later shut his office. Presently he owns an office by the name of 'Indian Care Taker Training Center' at Delhi. "The accused is also responsible for providing fake Indian passports to Nepalis in Darjeeling," Neville said.
"I do not understand why police are not taking any action, even though the matter is clear. I urge the officials concerned to probe the matter quickly. Many are suffering as they do not have any evidence," he said.
"If no action is taken, we along with several others will protest in front of the Bajpe police station," said Sunil Kumar Bajal.
