Mangalore, Dec 11: Following the suspected suicide of Mangalore-born Jacintha Saldanha, who was a nurse in London's King Edward VII hospital, union minister Dr M Veerappa Moily has requested union minister for external affairs Salman Khurshid to ensure fair investigation in the matter.
In a letter to Salman Khurshid, a copy of which is available with Daijiworld, Moily also requested the minister to take immediate steps to bring Jacintha's body back to Shirva.
"Jacintha hails from my district. The people of both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts and in particular, the relatives and children are very much agitated over the handling of the matter," the letter stated.
Moily further said, "I am told that no appropriate steps have been taken to make a fair investigation and also to bring back the body to her native place. This is a matter of grave concern to her parents and relatives and the people of both the districts."
Moily also stated in the letter that he has already held discussions with national security advisor Shivashankar Menon.
Jacintha, who was married to Benedicat Barboza from Shirva, allegedly committed suicide last week after falling prey to a prank call by two Australian radio presenters who pretended to be the Queen and Prince Charles and elicited sensitive information about duchess Kate Middleton who was admitted in the hospital.
