Naveen Soorinje Arrest - Bangalore Journos Go on Hunger Strike

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore

Bangalore, Jan 5: ‘Patrakartha Akrama Bandhana Virodhi Vedike’ has called for a hunger strike from Saturday January 5 seeking immediate release of Mangalore-based journalist Naveen Soorinje, who was arrested in November 2012 in connection with the home stay attack at Padil in Mangalore.

A press meet was held in this regard on Friday January 4 in the city.

Ravikrishna Reddy of the forum who addressed the press meet said, "Naveen who reported the incident was arrested on November 7, 2012 and is still not released. This is violation of freedom of press which is also against the Constitution."

He further added, "More than 12 false cases including illegal entry, possession of weapons, commotion, and several others have been filed against Naveen. Instead of considering him as a witness to the case, he has been tagged as accused and arrested."

Gangadhar Modaliyar, working president of the journalists' forum, who was present during the meet also spoke on the occasion. "Now another journalist has been arrested along with Naveen. Freedom of journalists is being suppressed," he alleged.

"Naveen along with the other journalist who has been arrested should be immediately released. Hunger strike will be held from January 5 seeking stringent action against all the police officials who have made false accusations," he said.

Bhagyashree of The Hindu, Dinesh, journalist, K S Lakshmi, Janavaadi association, Ashok, vice-president of press club and others were present.

Naveen Soorinje opened a new chapter in History of Mangalore by exposing the nonstop atrocity of so called moral policing in the name of saving the Indian culture. It is indeed an important and brave step by Naveen to expose those who molested the innocent girls and later mis-led to the police that they were half naked on wearing exposing costumes. The whole issue would have been gone unnoticed and these goons would be saved to continue on what they were doing all these years. I pity those women who protested on support of these youths and asked for their release. I do not understand why the HRC great Manjula being a woman herself made a wrong report. This journalist is a strong man and I believe he will not give up exposing truth even after the police try all the tricks to prosecute him. It was challenge to the police to arrest him and book him under different offences so that they can take revenge on him.

I would like to see self-effacing journalists going on hunger strike. Threatening is one thing, doing it is another. All the best. I guess it is too hot out here in Mangalore, hence they have ed Bangalore for their strike. Very convenient I must say.

Hey, who will take action against the corrupt media? All the politicians try to muscafai journalists for their self gain. Can there be a separate law for journalist. Ask those who felt the heat when Naveen used to blackmail them and you will know reality of this journalist. Shame on those who support him. allow court to take its own course. Why pressurise by hunger strike.

These journos need not earn their earning by photographing the innocent victims and airing . instead they can inform police first ,get arrested the moral police and with their permission air it.For earning good living there are other ways.

It's clear contempt of judiciary. This is not fair to pressure the court. Court will take its own decision.. He must respect the court. Surely he was culprit. So he is making new drama..

I am not fooling buddy.. Seems you woke up late today.. If Navin was innocent, he and his side could have presented material from his side saying he has not involved.. I hope you know how judiciary system works. If not, improve your knowledge.

Its a logical conclusion that whatever happened in Morning Mist Home stay in Aati month has a involvement by Navin and other scribes.Every thing there was preplanned. Now things backfired.Allow the law take its own course.Other option left for Navin is that reveal the truth of Home stay on that day.Appears that the protestors kept darkon the whole isse.TV/Press people are above all. They should behave and discharge their duty with responsibility.

    Dinesh Poojari Kundapura..

How long you fool daijiworld readers by telling HC denied bail!!Courts acts as per material of the prosecution. What IPC slapped to Navin Soorinje by Mangalore police!!? Dacoity, trespass etc etc. BJP Party and Sangh parivars and Govt of Karnataka's weakness exposed to the world. That Home stay attack was talk of the state/Nation/world when it was aired live in TVs.Again Shettar Govt showed it's apathy against free journalism and for that Party and Govt will have to pay heavily. If your Govt goes on putting media persons behind the bar, then it is for politicians @ ruling to make......

One should note that protest is taking place in faraway Bangalore and not Mangalore.

Also notice the protesters - they are not "real" journalists but mostly leftist radicals and naxal symptahisers.

One should be careful with these letterhead organisations and damage they can cause to Mangalore brand name.

It is as if they want to continue portray Mangalore as some sort of lawless place by continuously bringing up pub attack and homestay attack all the time.

From what I understand out of state student enrollment is down across many colleges in Mangalore in 2012 - a direct result of all bad publicity our city is getting because of pre-planned mischief ny Naveen Soorinje and co.

Did some out of city (say Bangalore colleges) or out of state (AP, TN) education lobby fund Naveen to create mischief during 2012 admission season peak time? It is worth investigating.

I am not saying everything is hunky dory in our kudla but we should not lose perspective of some external factors in work here to paint Mangalore as a lawless place.

JOURNOS /MEDIA SHOULD BEHAVE AS A RESPONSIBLE PERSON IN SOCIETY.
WITNESS SHOULD ONLY AT COURT WHEN CALLED FOR BUT NOT THRU MEDIA THEREBY HUMILIATING THE DIGNITY OF GIRLS/WOMEN WHICH IS MORE SEVERE THAN THOSE WHO ATTACKED IN THE INCIDENT.

Where is the fringe groups which supported the attack? Do they have the courage now to take his bail plea to the Supreme Courts or they fear that they will face the same fate as that of High Court? Some political parties initially tried to take advantage of the situation but they have realized that the case will backfire on them so now are absconding.

If Journalists find their action rightfull, let them fight in court. Why this natak now ? Journalists too have responsibility, & taking live coverage of attack, will not be in the interest of society. TV news will be watched by whole society, & not by just adults.

I neither trust police as we have seen several incidents in Mangalore including church attack nor journos.
If opionion with the above incident is police are not able protect citizens and journos instigated somewhat this incident (indirectly) but police holding Naveen Soorinje and punishing him is wrong as he is the witness to the incident.

I think people of Karnataka are more scared with few “Vedike or Associations” than any “Dal or Sene”. At least we know what Dal or Sene will do when they are out with genuine cause to protest but these Vedike or Associations wear “Cow Mask” but attack like “Bull”. That is the reason why people says now day that “Borinandala Nambule Pethonathe”

Media people should do responsible job

A day will come wherein for all arrests by police there will be hunger strikes by vested groups for release of accused. So there is no need for arrests,no court cases.Ultimately police will render jobless!!!
