Mangalore, Jan 5: The two-day national vendor development seminar cum industrial exhibition was inaugurated here at Karnataka Government Polytechnic (KPT) on Saturday January 5.
P P Upadhya, managing director of MRPL inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp along with other dignitaries.
M Prabhu, additional director (MSME) department of industries & commerce, Government of Karnataka; Mohammed Amin, president of KCCI; Santhosh D’Souza, joint secretary of KASSIA, Bangalore; SM Jamkhandi, director, Government of India, MSME DI, Bangalore; SG Hegde, joint director, DIC, K Socrates, deputy director, GoI MSME DI; K Jayaraj Pai, president of DSIA shared the dais.
P P Upadhya in his inaugural address said that the place is apt for hosting this programme as the development of industries in the district is high. The seminar will act as a platform for all vendors to showcase their products to large scale industries, he said.
Speaking about MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) he said it will help in creating more employment opportunities, boosts GDP, and increases exports. Adding he asked all the industrialists to make best use of the programme.
Speaking about MRPL, Upadhya said that the industry initially began with 3 million ton refinery and presently has increased to 15 million ton. The industry with turnover of 57,000 cr has about 45% of its products sold in export market.
M Prabhu in his keynote address said that the MSME is the lifeline of Indian economy. It contributes 35% of the Indian exports, supports GDP and many others. But the sad part is that, only 5% of MSME are registered in the country adding he said it’s high time to act on this aspect.
“MSME has been taking various initiatives in terms of technology upgradation, product standard and others but is lagging behind in marketing. With this issue solved, their products can be easily sold in the market”, he said.
The two-day national vendor development seminar cum industrial exhibition was organized by Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, and Government of India in association with District Industries Centre, Government of Karnataka and District Small Industries Association, Yeyyady.
