Mangalore, Jan 10: The Hamaali workers under the banner of CITU on Thursday January 10 organized a rally from Bunder till the deputy commissioner’s office along with their handcart protesting against the bad roads and drainage problem in the area.

"Bunder being a commercial center, roads from old municipal office are completely damaged. It is very difficult for workers to pass through the road next to police station, roads near Krishna police station and several others as the workers use handcart in transporting freight," the protestors said.

"Sometimes workers are also injured due to bad roads. In addition, the drainage connection in the area is also weak which leads to breakage very often," they added.

Despite several appeals submitted to the city corporation, no action has been taken so far, alleged one of the workers. They demanded immediate construction of road and speedy solutions to other problems.

Willy Wilson, president of Bunder Shramikara Sangha, B K Imthiyaz, chief secretary, Lancy Noronha, treasurer among others were present.

Bunder Locality needs Better Roads, true, and in India to highlight grievance, effective method left is public protest. Actually it is duty of elected representatives to voice peoples grievances.
Sad, we have so many un-employed people in India. They should be employed to construct roads, bridges, dams, railways like British did.
British made people to work for laying Railway tracks across India, constructed so many Roads, Bridges, dams, Electricity supply, Ports and postal network like infrastructures.
This trend should have been vigorously continued even after they left.

I have seen the whole of bunder area since my father owned a business there and we also live close by.
The years that I grew up, I have seen bunder evolve as a big business hub of Mangalore, catering to many cities across India.
What I have also seen is that this area has been neglected like no other place I guess. The roads except from Bunder police station to city press is concrete and also the JM road. But all other bylanes are in such pathetic condition and this protest has been long overdue.
To say the city administration has neglected this area is putting it in small words. I dont know if anyone ever knows the amount of revenue this place generates or how much taxes are collected from this area itself. It has to get its due.

There is no use of protesting in front of DC's office. Result will be Zero. They must protest in front of MCC or Elected persons like MLA,MP or Corporators house or office. The best thing is they should have ask the Elected Representatives to sat on the CARTS, while demonstration.

This is not a issue to protest in front of DC's office. The protesters must teach a lesson to the Elected Representatives of that area & MLA & MP's house or Office.I think they simply sit & watch the Procession.Pull them to the Street.

The entire city does not have walk-ways and the pedestrians are forced to descend to main road risking their lives.

Any officials concerned taking note of these pathetic condition of roads without sideways for public movement?
