M'lore: Nursing faculty urges minister to start more colleges in state

Media Release

Mangalore, Jan 20: Representatives of nursing colleges led by P Vabhilash, elected senate member, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, met the union minister of state for labour, Kodikunnil Suresh and discussed the major problems faced by the nursing professionals in the state.

Kerala Nursing Council is not registering the graduates who studied in the Karnataka state in the recent times which will definitely have a major impact on the admissions of students interested to study in Karnataka. In view of the declining number of admissions to nursing colleges in Karnataka due to various factors, the nursing teachers are facing uncertainty in jobs as well as salaries.

Indian nursing council, the apex body for regulating nursing education and practice in the country, has not fixed any scale for teachers and there is no consistency in payment by the private institutions.

As few institutions are running regular nursing courses like distant courses, which are illegal, the quality of education is also getting affected. This illegal practice has to be curbed.

A memorandum regarding all these problems was submitted to the minister. The minister assured the nursing representatives that he would look into the matter and take necessary actions.
