Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (VM)

Udupi, Feb 3: In a tragic incident, a 5-year-old girl died after she fell out of an auto rickshaw when the auto driver applied sudden brakes.

The incident took place near Duggabettu in Perdoor Kuntalakatte.

The deceased has been identified as Anusha (5), daughter of Arun Shetty and Usha from Bairampalli in Hiriadka.

The girl was sitting on her mother’s lap in the auto rickshaw and got thrown out when the auto jerked to a stop.

The incident occurred when the family was returning from Kallangala temple. As a vehicle was approaching from the front, the auto driver applied sudden brakes to avoid a collision which threw the child off balance and she fell out.

Sources said that the child was critically injured on the left side of the head.

    Rest in Peace Anusha!

@ Leslie Fernandes, people who have migrated to Canada and other Western countries have migrated for a better standard of living which is any day better than what is in India.

Why, don't you step out of your so called comfort zone & visit Dubai or Singapore & check for yourself how difficult it is to get a Drivers License there?

Yes, accidents do happen in Canada, but not on this scale. Infact, vehicles like this rickshaw with little or no passenger safety will not be passed.

In India, how many taxi drivers insist on wearing seat belts? how many drive in thier lanes? How often do you see motorists using the right & left indicators while turning.

After living in Canada & while visiting India, I tend to request the taxi/rickshaw drivers to pls.!!! drive slow.

May the soul of Anusha rest in eternal peace. May god give the courage and strength to the parents to bare the loss of their beloved angel. These auto rickshaws must follow some safety rules strictly enforced by the traffic department. These open autos are dangerous to the passengers as well as to the drivers.

Looks like canada is accident and incident proof? These kind of incidents possible anywhere, that doesnt mean take your bag and migrate? Looks like you are never going to return to India because of these kind of incidents??

What is safe for transportation in Mangalore area? Based on my recent trip to Mangalore, I consider the safety has no meaning at all. However, one should consider safe transportation as follows:

1 Volvo AC Buses day and night time
    2. Any bus if you enter and sit or stand in the middle of the bus
    3. Large vehicles, such as Toyota Innova and SUVs
    4.Rickshaw day time only
    5. Stay home

Walking, motor bikes, and those small cars during day or night time are the most unsafe modes of transportation.

People must become safety minded during all modes of transportation, crossing the roads (use rickshaw to cross road). Police are of no use. They are scared for their safety. Safety is every ones business and must include in daily life. Education has no value and meaning, if we can not be safe and follow safety requirements. I saw one high school student killed at Uchila on HWY 66 by a truck as he was walking to catch bus. The road is unsafe for night time travel. No bus, truck, or car driver cares for safety. Learn to protect and enjoy life in a safe manner. For the baby got killed, God bless her and have her soul rest in peace as she was returning from the Temple of God. Let us not forget freedom and money are intended to have a quality life and not for reckless behavior and transportation.

May her soul rest in Peace.
Motor Vehicle Dept/RTO must streamline method of examination to drivers for safety requirements, with minimum of 80% passing of questions relates to passenger & road safety, besides,
enforce law with panalty & suspension of licence. Without fear of this drivers once got licence don't care to follow. Licences for Taxi & Auto Rickshaw be renewed every year to control out of control drivers. RTO you guys better wake up, educate yourself or leave your job for someone to do.

It is so sad and tragic that we are loosing so many of our friends, neighbours and family to road accidents and not a day passes when we do not hear of tragic accidents on our roads taking a huge death toll every year.

Though accidents happens all over the world seat in India we need to do more in terms of safety. Seat belts or some kind of restraint will hold passengers in their seats, better road coupled with good driving skills and drivers as well as pedestrians courteously sharing the road and following rules would drastically reduce the number of accidents.

The onus is now on each and every one of us we have to be safe rather than sorry.

MAY HER SOUL REST IN PEACE For every vehicle that carries passengers there is a limit as to how many passengers they can carry. Are we following these rules.??Just look at the vehicles that carry small children in our towns to and from the schools. These kind of tragedies can happen always in our towns because we bother least about safety norms and authorities dont bother about implementing them..The power of drivers union and votes attached to them seems to be much important than safety...

Very sad and avoidable. The child in this case paid for the negligence of others.

Rickshaws are inherently unsafe. I feel they should replace all rickshaws by TATA nano if TATA's agree. The front non-drivers seat can be used for luggage and 3 can be comfortably seated in the rear. There is an AC option too. With the current rate of auto meter it is viable.

    very very sad incident.
Parents need to be extra careful be it in a rikshaw/bus/car/ any other vehicle. Sudden breaking/sudden turning is common now a days due bad road conditions, reckless driving. Ask children to hold the supports firmly expecting sudden stop. Never allow them put their head/hand outside of a moving vehicle.
Finally, life and death not on our hands but this type of incidents make us feel guilty life long if we are not careful enough.

Very sad incident. Rickshaw drivers should see the safety of passengers and even the passengers should also be careful when they are sitting in the Rickshaw. Any way no one knows the time and date of death except God. May her soul Rest in peace.
