Dear Gibbs, Udupi, pls don’t judge others with your own habits. In fact I knew very well that I have to pay customs duty since I am travelling for last 17 years using various airports in general. Officers politely pointed out that “Sir, you have to pay duty for extra bottle you are carrying and I oblige without any hesitation”

Why cant other departments start similar kind of scheme? Income Tax Department should start this kind of scheme where 20% of the illegal money seized will be given to the informants. I know atleast 50 people who are into business earning in 30 -40 lacs a year but dont pay single penny in taxes.

Sachidanand Shetty, It doesn't sound like that you paid Rs. 3000 customs duty happily. Infact, you might have tried to smuggle in excess whisky bottle and end up paying duty along with penalty. In this case, Customs should be proud of collecting duty from you.

"Customs Commissioner said that the customs aims to collect Rs 630 crore during 2012-13, and has already collected Rs 447 crore so far".
Sir, during 2011-12, the customs officers might have already crossed the proposed target of 2012-2013, but Rs. 447 crores is only the official d figure. What about the "unofficial" figure ????

Since Bajrag Dal has good network, they can take up the challenge of informing customs related illegal activities to the officials and help the nation.
It will benifit self also....There should not be any problem to the people if BD embarks this project actively....
